Brian Bradley - Change Leadership with new CBA

I missed this one because it was most likely part of baseball coverage but Brian Bradley blasted Gob and Bary last week:

"I think both of them are in the wrong," he said. "I don't think both of them should be around once the deal is made. We need a change."

"I think Gary Bettman and Bob Goodenow have ego problems," Bradley said. "I'm not saying Gary's a bad guy. I'm not saying Bob's a bad guy. I know them both personally. But after everything is said and done, what they did to the game, they damaged it."

Just anothner voice of discourse from a former star.... While the current players remain mostly mute.

Bashing Gary and Bob is definitely en vogue right now, however, these reporters need to justify their arguments a little better than they do. This is not about ego. It never was. There is no way 30 owners and 700 players watch their futures and their money thrown away because of the ego of one or two men.

No, if you want to dismiss them, lets at least argue the right reasons:

Bob must go because his negotiating tactic: stall, stall, stall, backfired. Goodenow tried to call the bluff of an opponent holding a royal flush, and as a result has lost his employers billions of dollars. And he’s still caved on both the cap and linkage.

Gary likely has to go as part of a cleansing of the NHL, and a step forward into a new era. Though, if Gary gets the owners the deal they want/need, he will likely go with a handshake and a hefty bonus, rather than the boot in the ass Bob should receive.
