Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Will Never Top Michael Jordan

Illness

Sorry I am not updating during a very volatile time. I am not feeling my best and staying offline while recupperating. There has been a load of information that has been published pertaining to the Lightning the last few days and of course -- just about every article is abscent from this site.

And I get to eat a healthy helping of crow as well -- the teams situation under the cap and with players signed is not as rosie as I thought.

There's a chance Tommy Duncan from Sticks of Fire may guest-blog in my steed.... Or a chance I will be back within hours, minutes, seconds.... or days Take your pick

First, I hope you feel better soon.

Second, I don’t want to say I told you so … but I am curious what changed. why do you no longer see the Lightning situation as being as rosey as you once did. What do you see as the problem?

While I havent been keeping up to date with the Lightning’s financial particulars, I do know that Khabibulin is an unrestricted free agent, while Martin St. Louis is restricted. Both Lecavalier and St. Louis will be UFA’s within two years under the new rules, so the cost of keeping the core together will be very high.

Of course, I never felt that the Lightning would be able to afford to keep the core together longer than a year or two anyway, so the Lightning’s immediate future has not changed with this CBA, though they are more likely to retain at least two of their big players as the cap will reduce the costs of signing these players.
