Number Nine...

Number Nine...

Eh, sorry for the redux with the #9 stuff.... But Nine are off the Lightning training camp roster as of this evening:

C Ryan Craig Springfield (AHL) Training Camp
LW Andre Deveaux Springfield (AHL) Training Camp
G Brian Eklund Springfield (AHL) Training Camp
LW Mitch Fritz Springfield (AHL) Training Camp
C Jason Jaspers Springfield (AHL) Training Camp
RW Marek Kvapil Springfield (AHL) Training Camp
D Doug O'’Brien Springfield (AHL) Training Camp
D Todd Rohloff Springfield (AHL) Training Camp
C Nick Tarnasky Springfield (AHL) Training Camp

Artyukhin, Hebling and Rogers remain... Defensively: Timo does not surprise me but Andy Rogers? That one does. Big time.

Rogers: he’s big and fast and agile. And didja see him just sort of flick the puck to the net from near the blue line? Yeah, so he was off by a few inches, but there was some power behind that flick and he saw the shot; others would’ve needed a full swing if they saw the shot.
I like Helbling’s ‘sense’ better, his aggressiveness. But Rogers, despite his mistakes, was in the game … and quite the communicator. I was surprised, too, but not in the same way.

How can Eklund find time to play goal, write books and run a crappy website? Wow.

Saw Helbling play against the Sabres last Sunday night. My brother and I nick named him Coast-to-coast for the way he got the puck up the ice. He’s further along than Rogers and should be the Bolts 6th defenseman.
Also, I read in the paper that Artyukhin will surely be sent down after an extended camp. Why? He’s putting it all together. He can score and he’s a hammer. I say let him stay and throw that big body around on the forth line with Cibak and Dinger.

It comes down to the cap, LJ, in not keeping “R2” around… They haven’t made a decision on defense yet and they have very little cpa room to play around with.
