14 minutes to go. Lessee…beer, pizza, foam brick, smokes, another foam brick…I’m ready.

Check. Plus holy water, snakes, bonfires, Bhuddist chants, and a burning bush.
Wanted to do a virgin sacrifice. Couldn’t find one.

What the hell? 1-0 Carolina already? I leave the room and the game just starts and it’s already 1-0?
by John F. on Apr 14, 2006 7:10 PM EDT reply actions
Yeah. PPG from the point, deflected. Still can’t tell which Lightning team showed up tonite, but I’m getting an idea…
by Hinch on Apr 14, 2006 7:13 PM EDT reply actions
Sunshine had the score 0-1 Carolina from the get go of the telecast…
If the Lightning was a car, you would hear the engine grinding and laborring to turn over…

A lot of time spent in the Carolina end though. It’d be promising if we could score.
by John F. on Apr 14, 2006 7:25 PM EDT reply actions
That was an great shift. Why does every goalie we face suddenly look like Tretiak?
by Hinch on Apr 14, 2006 7:27 PM EDT reply actions
All over gerber after the commercial break. Looked like a Power Play….
Did the engine just turn on?
by John F. on Apr 14, 2006 7:28 PM EDT reply actions
I think it’s our method of attack on the guys, Hinch…
GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!!!
by John F. on Apr 14, 2006 7:31 PM EDT reply actions
That was a dive! Artoo barely did ANYTHING and he gets called…
by John F. on Apr 14, 2006 7:32 PM EDT reply actions
Canes score. Crap.
I was gonna say I’ve seen many Artoo sweaters at the Forum…which is good to see. But the league is afraid of him.
by Hinch on Apr 14, 2006 7:36 PM EDT reply actions
People just flat out love Artoo… Especially after the opening of the season where he was the only Lightning member willing to throw a check, it seemed.
I still think Ranger is the ROY on the team but Artoo’s contribution is very much apparent. Shame the league is trying to run him out of the NHL

Beauty save by Burke. Maybe the ’Ning can keep some momentum now.
by Hinch on Apr 14, 2006 7:42 PM EDT reply actions
I just wish they had gotten past Gerber once more, but right now standing toe to toe with Carolina is good enough.

I’m beating a dead horse here, but the players need to decide that they want to win this. Thay can win anytime they step on the ice. It’s just that they don’t play hard, they don’t pass well, they don’t check, and they don’t sacrifice bodies in front of the net. They remind me of my 25-year old son…it seems like too much effort is uncool, so they just don’t bother.
Feh. /rant off.
Maybe a useful discussion will take place duting the break, and they’ll come out pissed and finish this.

Anyone on directv in tampa?
What channel is the game on?
by jrf on Apr 14, 2006 7:54 PM EDT reply actions
The indiffeence is a good point. It’s like I’ve been saying lately — the team is playing without a killer instinct and not going for the throat when they have a chance. they had 2 opportunities to take out Atlanta recently and left the door wide open both times. It’s the tale of the season.
I also think this carelessness might stem from having a core of the team as champions multiple times over during the last 2 years. Stanley Cup, World Cup of Hockey, Olympic Gold, Hart trophy, Conn Smyth, World Cup MVP,etc…
I would NOT be surprised if these guys are actually itching to play 18 holes of golf — which owuld be sad but like I just said, not surprising.
by John F. on Apr 14, 2006 7:56 PM EDT reply actions
JRF, no DirectTV here. Plain ol’ Bright House, ch 31.
by Hinch on Apr 14, 2006 7:58 PM EDT reply actions
John, never thought about it that way. Too many championships, medals, trophys, bonuses? I can see it happening, but I’d be disappointed if that’s a reason. ’Course, none of the players would ever admit it.

Both Vinny and Marty on that one! They both had break aways.
Marty with the goal
by John F. on Apr 14, 2006 8:03 PM EDT reply actions
Damn. Score Canes. That seems to happen a lot. That’s why I hold my breath for about 60 secs after a Lightning goal.
by Hinch on Apr 14, 2006 8:04 PM EDT reply actions
Brad! Long shot! So much for the ghost of Tretiak!
by Hinch on Apr 14, 2006 8:12 PM EDT reply actions
Need two more, and then don’t…DO NOT…fall back into that stinking stupid defensive mode.
Safe, after all, is death.
by Hinch on Apr 14, 2006 8:14 PM EDT reply actions
Man. Everything I said earlier about not working hard does not apply to Marty. Just to clarify.
He’s a beast. A little beast, but still a beast.

Maybe it’s time for the sine wave of Lightning hockey competence to rise again…good looking shift so far, and a penalty drawn.

JF: Your timestamp (comments and others?) is an hour off, btw.
Anyway, I just got back from vaca yesterday, so I apologize for missing the last few open threads… but not that much, if you know what I’m saying.
Here’s hoping the Bolts can pull this one out.
The Fedotenko goal at the end of the first reminded me of game seven.

I’ll see if I can fix that Gary, thanks for pointing it out and WELCOME BACK
by John F. on Apr 14, 2006 8:47 PM EDT reply actions
And a goalie interference call on Artyukin. Shocking.
by Hinch on Apr 14, 2006 8:56 PM EDT reply actions
Powerplay with six left. Hrm… they have 3, but we have a shortie.
by Gary on Apr 14, 2006 9:01 PM EDT reply actions
Poobina giving it up at the point, and then taking two.
Sucks to your asmar.
by Gary on Apr 14, 2006 9:04 PM EDT reply actions
Killed it off. This game is going back and forth like a title fight… I would go as far as to say next goal wins but there’s too much time left.
by John F. on Apr 14, 2006 9:07 PM EDT reply actions
Great PK, thanks to Burke… who I timewarp into calling Schwab.
by Gary on Apr 14, 2006 9:09 PM EDT reply actions
PP Lightning…this time, maybe. Like John says, next goal wins it, I think.
by Hinch on Apr 14, 2006 9:10 PM EDT reply actions
Or—after having received permission for profanity—too much pussy, not enough sac.
by Gary on Apr 14, 2006 9:13 PM EDT reply actions
CVinny and Marty just missed another Tag team SHG
by John F. on Apr 14, 2006 9:20 PM EDT reply actions
48 seconds away from one point… small consolation.
by Gary on Apr 14, 2006 9:20 PM EDT reply actions
48 seconds…. why do we have to cut these things so close?!?
by John F. on Apr 14, 2006 9:21 PM EDT reply actions
One point.
Big fucking deal.
Get two, bitches!
(That’s supposed to be an encouragement.)

JF: This has got to be the highest comments score of all time here on Boltsmag.

Freddy plays best when he’s flippin’ around on the ice, apparently.
by Gary on Apr 14, 2006 9:26 PM EDT reply actions
Holy crap. Burke lucks out.
Good looking effort so far, but not great.
by Hinch on Apr 14, 2006 9:28 PM EDT reply actions
Officilly no goal, 1:03 left…
Don’t mess this up boys.
by John F. on Apr 14, 2006 9:30 PM EDT reply actions
Fuck. Icing is good, but if Brindy gets on the faceoff again…
by Gary on Apr 14, 2006 9:31 PM EDT reply actions
SO. This is good. As far as I know. Isn’t it?
Yes it is.

Vinny Brad and Marty to start for the Lightning
WHo you think for Carolina? Staal, Brind’amour and Williams?
by John F. on Apr 14, 2006 9:34 PM EDT reply actions
I just got called out by my fiancee for doing geek shit about the Bolts on the computer.

Well, it’s a game of inches, after all!
punches self in nose
by Hinch on Apr 14, 2006 9:39 PM EDT reply actions
One point. I’m not at all thanking the hockey gods that the Bolts got one.
Fuck them. If the Caps can school the Canes…
Just saying…
