Can I please say this without getting into trouble? When I was a student/waitress, my co-workers and I always fought over Canadian customers. The loser had to take them.

Canadians never tipped well – at all. So if you’re in town and dining out, be a sport and tip the working girl at least 20% for a job well done.

Fight the cliche.

15% is customary in Canada (the same as the combined federal and provincial sales tax — so you don’t have to do the math yourself). For 20% the server would have to be above-average.

I tip ZERO for crap service (I know — maybe it’s the kitchen’s fault — but then, a good server will let you know what is going on).

The customary 15% is for customarily good service and for exceptional service – more.
