Here’s to a good, well contested game… and the hope that Don Imus doesn’t want to chime in his two cents on the series ;) j/k

While the media will attack if Tampa Bay doesn’t sell out the home opener — New Jersey’s got empty seats a-plenty.

Not only is SunSports not showing this in HD, the pic looks like they’re using 1950’s vacuum tube cameras. At least on my screen.

Devils will have the first power play opportunity

Hinch, I need to do a full story ont he High Def thing. The differential (number) between Panther and Lightnign HD broadcasts are ridiculous.
On the road, I understand it a bit. But not at home.

Devils open scoring. Christ, we hung him out to dry.
by John F. on Apr 12, 2007 7:54 PM EDT reply actions
I say hung him out to dry because they failed to clear it.

Lightning going to the power play because Colin White remains an idiot.

WTF — Lightning trip right after the penalty ends?

Nwo Holmqvist hangs the Lightning out to dry. 2-0

Geeze, was afraid Holmer would let some of the clears into our net, and I’ve been fairly keen on the guy. Can only hope it was stage-lights jitters and that he’ll make the adjustment. After all, the guy seems to have neither long- nor short-term memory of bad plays, so he may get his head yet. But Perrin, Feds & Prospal, let’s step it up! Glad Brad had Marty to capitalize on yet another perfect pass. And let’s not get out-muscled, guys.

What I am worried aobut is that we only capitalized on a 5-on-3. It’s Brodeur and the Devil-trap which will limit shots, but they have got to pose an even-strength offensive threat and not bank on Colin White being an idiot again.

You’re right as usual, John. Now that I think about it, games when we can’t score 5-on-3 have been bad for us. But heck, I’m halfway into a nice English ale, so will keep some optimism going for at least another period. BTW I hear Atlanta is having some problems . . .

WTF, now I have to keep up with two open threads?!

Gary:
And me too. You get to suffer with me :D
VINCENZO! Now where is the Bradmaster when you need him ???

I guess Rick and “The Chief” are doing the commentary for tonight’s game down there, huh?
That means you didn’t get to hear the NJ asshats call Vinny lazy. Actually, they said Marty’s energy keeps Lecavalier skating… followed by, “not to call Lecavalier lazy…”
Hrm… Rocket Richard trophy doesn’t seem lazy to me…

PP coming up on the hold. Lets see if we can tie this sucker.
by John F. on Apr 12, 2007 9:05 PM EDT reply actions
blew it even. Period ends.
13 shots on goal… bah
by John F. on Apr 12, 2007 9:10 PM EDT reply actions
The good news is they were more present in the Devils zone. The bad news was the score :p
They are going to have to limit the shots on goal by the Devils. Holmer is a risk — not trying to tear the guy down but we’ve got to get a lead and help him out.
Well, first we need a tie.

Are you friggin’ kidding me?! 4-3?
Jeez Louise.
Aaaaaaand the Bolts deflate.
by Gary on Apr 12, 2007 9:32 PM EDT reply actions
WTF?! Horrid timing for a change up with a loose puck!
by John F. on Apr 12, 2007 9:33 PM EDT reply actions
How the Devils can win the first round: Take advantage of the weak defense and go high on Holmqvist.
by Gary on Apr 12, 2007 9:34 PM EDT reply actions
I guess what really hurts i Taransky missing on Brodeur — he had a lot of net to shoot on. Nick cold have tied the game early in the third with that one.
Bah, woulda, coulda, shoulda….

The Boolts need to remember the razzle-dazzle passes are NOT there friend against a team that specifically tries to clog passing lanes!

It seems like the Bolts are bipolar tonight. Not to make light of that condition (should any of the readers have bipolar disorder)… but it’s as if they’re on fire, then flip the switch, start sucking, flip the switch, on fire…
by Gary on Apr 12, 2007 9:45 PM EDT reply actions
So… what should we call it?
Power play? Nope.
Sour play?
Flower play?
Powder play?
I’m going with Dour Play.

Holmqvist threw it out into traffic… and got owned.
That fifth goal hangs on him.
by Gary on Apr 12, 2007 9:56 PM EDT reply actions
And now people can crap on Tortorella — he gambled saying Denis will sit out the playoffs and you know what? Karri Ramo’s going to end up starting at one point or another in this series and the Lightning getting humiliated because of it isn’t going to bode well for Torts ina media that is already hostile to him (the national NHL media)
by John F. on Apr 12, 2007 9:58 PM EDT reply actions
Get off Holmers back, he made the right move being aggressive and not wanting to take a late face-off down low, he had control, he had players, hell he put it right on the stick, whatever. The real dog of the night was Feds, he blew it on that fourth goal. He had about four chances to just dump it down the ice and he lost it on the boards on their blue line, he lost every battle on the boards and he doesn’t seem to have the drive to turn the corner anymore.
Torts will adjust for the trap in practice today and we come out on top Sat.
