ECQ: Tampa Bay Lightning at New Jersey Devils (Game 2) Open Thread
Thursday's loss was heartbreaking but it was not a total schooling of the Lightning that should leave fans disenchanted like last seasons drubbing (repeated drubbings at that) fo the Bolts by the hands of the Ottawa Senators...
Yet at the same time we saw the difference between the two opponents. Ottawa flat out outplayed Tampa Bay (as they always do) while the New Jersey Devils played there system of offensive-squelching hockey while feeding off Tampa Bay's mistakes.
And while Safe is Death, so is stupid...
Fans of both teams are welcome to comment, but keep it civil. Flaming, trolling or other disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

no but they looked a sight better than Jersey on that one. Passive box instead of aggressive?

That was a bullshit call on Sarich… PP for the Devils.

BTW Gary, Marsha, Hinch and anyone else out there —
The poll about the series predictions closes tonight. So if you want to make a prediction and haven’t — do it now.

The Bolts gotta’ let the Devils take the stupid penalties by continuing to skate fast, pass well, and forecheck. That they’re on the PK again now isn’t very smart hockey.

Damnit. O’Brien for hooking. Another stupid penalty after a great PK (especially by Party Marty).

not much time left in the period but they are going to ware down Marty and Vinny and Ward at this rate.

The NJ sportscasters won’t shut up about Holmqvist not using his stick. It’s true, though…
(grumble grumble bitch and moan)

and remember folks we may seem slow here but we are also chatting on FanHome as the game goes on:

I think it only seems slow here b/c the game is riveting. I can’t find a chance to get away from the TV to come to the Mac.
Yes, unfortunately, I cannot view both screens at the same time.

Holy moly – Party Marty throws his entire body at Rafalski, then Vinny comes up with two cannons that sounded like the split the boards in half.
Too bad they weren’t on net… they may very well have gone through Brodeur’s chest.

I never thought I’d find myself saying this:
Nolan Pratt just made a very good defensive play.

they had there flury, we had ours. Now they will get another PP chance.

Five on three.
Wasn’t that the score in Game one? Jesus FFFFing Christ.
by Gary on Apr 14, 2007 8:33 PM EDT reply actions
It was so impossible to make that I mistook Party Marty for the Bradmaster.
by Gary on Apr 14, 2007 8:41 PM EDT reply actions
LOL. Marty’s done it before.
Hats off to WARD. Christ, he did a damn great job saving the puck and starting the play.
by John F. on Apr 14, 2007 8:44 PM EDT reply actions
Agreed, JF. Ward has been playing well so far in these two games.

Jason should have already been tendered a contract by Feaster. He’s not a franchise player, don’t get me wrong, but he’s played (regular season and playoffs) the exact role that Feaster acquired him to play: as Robbie Dimaio’s replacement.

Gary: FanHome’s not a hard-ass site but we do try to keep the conversation high-brow. It used to be a VERY populated message board and we had rules against profanity, certain content (nothing sexual, etc) and other stuff.

Good time for feds to play his game of the season. Holmy was cool, straight up cool. Boyle’s a monster!

(audible sigh of relief). Satisfying game all around IMHO, with nice bumpin along the boards & solid Holmer. Perrin redeemed himself tonite, and Feds is coming along, I think. Vinny #4 just amazes me; perhaps his inability to grow a playoff beard just means he’s an alien from the planet Hockey Master. :)
