Into the great wide open

So Dan Boyle is out 3-6 weeks after a skate-cut injury at his locker. How much pressure this puts on Jay Feaster to go out and add veteran blue line depth to the roster remains to be seen but Boyle will certainly miss the opener and first weeks of the season.

This also gives the Lightning minor leaguers and prospects more of a reason to state a case to stay in Tampa Bay. The number 5 and 6 defensive roles will be open... That is, unless Jay acts and I could very well see him doing so unless money (through additional signings) for the team is frozen until the sale of the franchise is complete.

I know the Lightning aren’t expected to do much, but it ain’t worth attempting suicide over! ;o)

Boyle has some of the worst luck, ever though.

What a predicament. The Bolts are at their self imposed cap, but now are in need of someone to help fill the void left by Boyle for a few weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bolts talked to Cullimore or Pratt, both would be fine at the right price. Kasparaitis is also out there. The Rangers would be on the hook for half of his $3 mil, but I think his best days are behind him.

Cullimore joined the Red Wings, RJ. He was playing the night before and had face time on Ice Time before the game.

From the St. Petersburg Times tid-bit on Shane O’Brien’s worth to the team now, they indicated Pratt isn’t available either.

Ok, I had to calm down a bit before posting about the Boyler man, he of the smooth strides, my fave player, he who was so nice to my kid at the Draft Party 2 years ago, he who got this old Mom to listen to Nickleback. Well, let’s just hope this temporary loss inspires the other D-men to step it up for the Dan-man. Speedy recovery, #22. And let’s move that hook down to the bottom of your locker stall, eh?
