TB @ Ottawa and Phillies @ Dodgers

I will be following both of these. More interest in the TB game though. I find myself in the uncomfortable position of having to root for the Dodgers…. Actually hoping the Angels take the whole enchilada though.

by Tina Robinson on Oct 15, 2009 7:13 PM EDT reply actions

Think it ends up being Dodgers/Yankees in the end

Not that I don’t think the Angels coudl take it. I just have a feeling Torre and Mattingly are going to beat up on Steinbrenner in the end.

To strive, to seek, to find, and to forever keep it Raw. Raw Charge.

by John Fontana on Oct 15, 2009 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, if the Angels can’t do it, then I’ll pull for the Dodgers, much to my chagrin. I will not pull for the Phillies in any circumstances. And there are only 2 teams I hate worse than the Phillies and that’s both NY teams.

by Tina Robinson on Oct 15, 2009 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Braves fan, right?

I grew up a Mets fan thank-you-very-much. :-p :)

I hate the Yankees though, that’s compounded by being in TB now and having them stuffed down our throats while we have our own team…

LOL...

How’d you guess? Yes, I’ve been a Braves fan since way before it was cool to be a Braves fan. It would be OK for the Dodgers to win it though. I like Joe Torre. Classy guy. Always has been.

by Tina Robinson on Oct 15, 2009 7:22 PM EDT up reply actions

And unlike a lot of folks around here, I really do despise the Yankees. Hate the “Evil Empire”….I’m not an American League fan, so don’t have to deal with it that much during the season, but I know TB Rays fans hate them with a passion. Not too fond of the Red Sox either, I don’t think.

by Tina Robinson on Oct 15, 2009 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions

I like the Rays but...

….I’m an NL boy. Hate the DH.

Yeah, we’ve got Steinbrenner living here, we’ve got corrupt politicians kissing his ass, we’ve got spring training here, Jeter has built a huge mansion not far from the arena…

We get the basebqall team and the Tampa Tribune gives preference to the Yankees in print because they have a minor league team that plays in Tampa and they train in Tampa. There is a local radio station that carries Yankee games because of those links to. It’s disgraceful.

…But then again, so is having a baseball team so far removed from the bulk of the population (St. Petersburg is a pain in the ass to reach)

So I guess it’s not so much who I’m pulling for as who I’m pulling against. Don’t see a tie as a viable option, no matter what….

by Tina Robinson on Oct 15, 2009 7:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Like Rays-Phillies in the WS last year

damnit, why couldn’t they have left that game a tie?!

by John Fontana on Oct 15, 2009 7:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I was hoping the Rays could pull that one out, and not just because they were playing the Phillies (but that did help). I like the Rays. They didn’t do so good this year though….

Hey, I’m just here for the hockey. Nothing else to distract me from it. Which is probably good since I’ll have to write something up about the game later. ;o)

I meant to say LIGHTNING goal…. But Smitty has made a couple of good saves so far.

So the question is…if Smitty has a poor game – or the team plays poorly in front of him – do they stick with Smith for the next start(s)?

Good question. Don’t want to mess up his confidence but can’t afford to let him “play himself out of it” either. The longer it goes before Smitty gets them a win, the more the “goalie controversy” will keep coming up in conversation.

I think it was the right call. His foot was moving forward when the puck went in off of it. It was incidental, probably, but I think that’s still the rule.

But that was existing momentum, not intentionally directing the puck into the net.

According to TSN, Tocchet hasn’t looked at Niittymaki, so I don’t think he’s going to get a shot. Ottawa’s had Niitty’s number most of the time, anyway, so he wouldn’t fare much better.

I honestly don’t think it’s no chemistry as much as they are both trying too hard. Gripping the stick a bit too tightly. They pop a few in the back of the net and loosen up, that could help a lot.

Every coach at every level shares that soapbox with ya. I agree too. Effort doesn’t have a switch that you can just turn on and off. You either got it, or you don’t. And tonight, they didn’t have it at all.

A disgruntled Leafs’ fan posted up on his blog the five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. I never got past stage 2 (anger) last season. And I’m still kind of there, I have to admit. So seeing a game like this really makes me not happy.
