Yes, we're open for business
It may be dark, rainy… It may be a football Sunday… It could even be a non televised game (FAIL) but we’re open for business…

It’ll be a game time decision. Seven defensemen are dressed and skating.

Why does it seem like such an impossibility to limit shots against?
Pre game question — what the hell si the deal on defense where shots are not outright stopped? I don’t remember it being such an issue in the past with the Lightning. It seems foreign to them right now though — how to block a shot, how to get the puck out of the zone.
It’s just food for thought. If the players were actually reading this pre-game, I have to stress the fact you guys have GOT to do more for your netminders. Limiting shots against is part of what will give the club a better chance… even IF Frank or Mike are having a stellar game.

Hello everybody, thanks for these updates. So the game is not even being televisted on the NHL gamecenter?
Also is Paul Szczechura actually on the first line, if so how is he playing (or at least hearing like he’s playing)?
I don’t recall this player
so was wondering what that was about. With 5 “big name” forwards, it seems strange to put a name I dont immediately recognise with Malone / V4.
by Sidicus on Nov 22, 2009 5:22 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Szczechura has been playing with VL and Bugsy since he got called up from Norfolk.
He played a game or so on the 3rd or 4th line and been on Vinny’s line since. He was with the team last season too.
by TB_hockey_fan on Nov 22, 2009 5:24 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Thanks, obviously not paying enough attention. Hopefully he can help the entire line fire.

Paul "Chewie" Szczchura was a bottom line player
Last season. Started this season in the minor leagues. They stuck him on the wing trying once again to get production out of Lecavalier.

Ah….! Now I understand the blackout. They didn’t want to go head-to-head with the NFL. Thought it wouldn’t be worth their time to broadcast the game so they didn’t.

This is how sad the situation really is:
@TBLightning @BenThrashers any chance you guys are posting video from today’s game from your scoreboard feed? since the nhl won’t be providing…
Yes, you read that right. The people from Tampa Bay are asking the people from Atlanta for video. Via Twitter, no less.

Aren’t they required to have some sort of “in house” feeds in case of a review of some sort?
by TB_hockey_fan on Nov 22, 2009 5:35 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
They might, but the NHL doesn’t have that feed. So the War Room can’t review it.

End of 1, score is 0-0.
The Lightning are actually outshooting Atlanta 15-8; Malone, Meszaros, Hedman, and Stamkos each have two shots. Faceoffs aren’t that great. Tampa’s only won 40% of theirs; Lecavalier & Szczechura both won 2-3 (40%), but Stamkos has only won 1-4 (20%). Malone has two hits. St. Louis has two takeaways. Krajicek has two blocked shots.

Does anybody like the smell of cooked tuna? I’m trying to get a feel for the opinion of the populace that doesn’t include me.

Well, it might have been canned. It’s being put to use in a tuna melt. I don’t think it’s particularly fresh.

Make sure to use Killer on every possible opportunity. Beats his current onen “Wrighter.”
You know who else was nicknamed Killer? Doug Gilmour and legendary junior coach of my Ottawa 67’s, a man who bestowed the captaincy upon one Zenon Konopka. That’s good company.

Okay. Things are looking good. Lightning are up 2-0 with goals by Veilleux and Malone after two.
Lightning are outshooting the Thrashers 24-16; Malone has five shots (and a cross bar) while Meszaros, Hedman, and Stamkos each have three. Vinny has only one shot, but he’s also hit pipes twice (those don’t count as shots on goal). Faceoffs are still not great with the team winning only 39% of all of them; Konopka is 4-1 (80%) but Szczechura is 2-5 (29%). Krajicek has three blocked shots, and Walker has two. St. Louis has two takeaways, but the team does not have a single giveaway as of yet.

The scary stat is that SOG… Bolts are actually outshooting an opponent after 2? When has that happened last? I know they have often outshot the opponent after one, but they tend to slack off (both offensively and defensively) and the other team quickly catches up.

It sounded pretty good, up until the last 5 minutes or so, that is. SOG was a season high (think I heard 44?). They have got to start learning to play with a lead! I’ve said it before, get that “killer instinct” (sorry, couldn’t resist..). When they got a team down, stomp on them and KEEP them down. This kind of play tonight may work against the Thrashers, but against the likes of the Pens or B’s or Caps, not so much.
