Fun note: Ryan Lambert at Puck Daddy referred to Smith as Tampa’s “backup goalie” in his weekly recap. Awesome sauce. For my fantasy team, I mean. Kids in the Staal like this.

Whatever you post there will be random people reading it. (Only scary if you think about it too much)

Apart from the commute, will you be hanging around during the game to cheer on the Lightning / Avalanche as appropriate?

by Sidicus on Nov 30, 2009 7:09 PM EST up reply actions

Hmm? I’m not Lambert.

I’ll pop in when I get home. I expect a Tampa win, but I’m a good sport about these things. And the conversation here is usually pretty good. No reason not to join in.

I have no idea what to expect from that. Who’s calling the game tonight? Hopefully not Tim Peel.

Oh scheiss, Tampa has Ice Girls. Frick.

We started it, you know?

Ice Girls, I mean… They’ve been rebranded this year but the fact is we originated the pep squad stuff in the NHL.

Craig Anderson + Ice Girls = Distraction.

Saw it with my own eyes here in Vancouver. Shouted from the rafters at him to stop. Then shouted at the Ice Girls to stop. No luck.

GREAT piece over at behindthenet.com talking about referees giving the away team hard times. It’s chronic among refs.

Unless they trade half the team. Please don’t do that.

Okay, heading home. Let’s have a nice 0-0 period so I can see all the good stuff.

Nicknames

While we’re at it with players…. The venue goes by a bunch of different names. Well, not really but…

It was formerly “Ice Palace” and people still call it that. Others call it the “Fish Wrap Forum” or “The Forum” for short. I blended the sponsor with the old arena name and call it “Times Palace”.

Nicknames for places are quite hard.

Where I live they have a stadium thats supposed to be called stadium, but everyone calls it the “Cake Tin”, because… well it looks like a cake tin.
Can’t think of any other interesting nickname that aren’t steeped in obscure history and mean something to people who don’t live there.

The Avs are leading the Lightning 1-0 after one.

Shots are even at 9-9; Meszaros & Downie each have two. Faceoffs aren’t the best, winning 44% overall – despite Lecavalier winning 63% of his (5-3) and birthday-boy Szczechura winning 67% of his (2-1). Meszaros has three hits, but also has two giveaways.

Dear Centre Ice and Shaw Cable

I realize that MSG is run by a jerk of an owner who won’t let MSG HD be broadcast on any other cable provider than his own. I’ve learned to accept that. Could you please explain why I cannot get SUN in HD? I have several Centre Ice HD channels that have nothing airing right now.

I’m also confused as to why I only get one network’s broadcast. When I had Comcast in San Francisco, I often got both home and away television broadcasts, even though I could only get Center Ice in SD. But here I only get one network per game. More over, when Colorado plays virtually any other team, you give me Altitude HD.

So what gives? Why am I only getting SUN in SD tonight? What do you have against the Lightning? And me?

Please write me back. I’m so lonely.

Another rookie question… The livescore said a colorado were penalised for “thow stick” (Stasnky).

I know the last colorado game had issues with stick throwing for the goalie, does that apply to everyone?

by Sidicus on Nov 30, 2009 8:41 PM EST reply actions

Yes. Unless your stick is broken, then you have to drop it – otherwise, that’s a penalty. But even then, you can’t throw your stick into the play.

The Lightning are down 2-0 to Colorado after two.

They’re being out-shot 22-17; Meszaros (a defenseman, remember) is leading the team with four shots, while Stamkos has three. Downie, Meszaros, and St. Louis each have two missed shots; while Lecavalier and Meszaros have three “attempted but blocked” shots each. And five players have each blocked a shot.

Team faceoffs are much better, now winning 58% of them; Lecavalier is 11-4 (73%) and Stamkos is 5-2 (71%). Meszaros still has three hits and two giveaways. Lecavalier and Stamkos each have recorded a steal.

It’s kind of a dead horse for me, but I think it’s important to discredit someone who has no morals and who many people follow his words as Avalanche gospel.

Also, Alix made a delightfully cruel tweet about/to him when he was on his “I will quit Twitter if I don’t get 1000 followers by x day.”

My

Aunt and Uncle LOOOOOVE Tocchet. What a difference from his junior coach. Tocchet came up to them in a resteraunt a few weeks ago and told them thanks for raising such a great kid.

And thank you so much! It was fun to write.

He's also stolen tips from DDC at Mile High Hockey

DDC tried to get something verified and what does Dater do? He runs with it and posts the scoop on his own blog.

Yeah

Dater is just an all round joke. I`m not sure how he sitll has a job.

I like he he said he was swearing off twitter….then starts tweeting again

by Dani Toth on Nov 30, 2009 9:58 PM EST up reply actions

Yep. We all called that, too.

I think the tweet was something like: “I would follow @adater, but I’m too busy doing play-by-play for an NBA game”

The colour guy on the radio sounds like he’s drinking

by Dani Toth on Nov 30, 2009 9:51 PM EST reply actions

Yes…drinking like spiced rum or something…

That’s Phil Esposito…. unless they’ve changed color commentators.

I’m sure it is…he’s hilarious tonight

by Dani Toth on Nov 30, 2009 9:56 PM EST up reply actions

Not in a great way….like he keeps getting elbowed to make a comment, and when he does its hilarious because he sounds like he’s had a few

by Dani Toth on Nov 30, 2009 9:56 PM EST up reply actions

Listening to him reminds me of listening to my dad. Of course, my dad’s 73 years old.

They’re doing well with keeping possession, but they’re not doing anything with it.

Thank you, much appreciated. And thankyou to anyone else who voted as well (preferably for me, or someone else who had a cool photo)

With all the people I have harassed into voting for me, I think I now have 9 votes! Just one more and I can make it to double figures (not that actually know how many people voted for me, and don’t know if I ever will)

I’m fairly certain this is the only time this two teams meet this year. I can’t remember who the three teams are that each team plays twice from the other conference.

Well, that’s only two more games I have to be the bad guy. That one and whichever day Ottawa plays Tampa again.

Look on the bright side, the people here don’t look like English soccer fan’s so you don’t need to worry about being hit with bits of the stadium after the game.

You can support any team and they will still play nice*

Any last thoughts? I felt like this game was a yawner for the Lightning. Both in the boring sense, but also in a “they can’t be bothered” sense.

A cheap goal and a pp goal on a questionable penalty. But they (unfortunately) count. Bolts had the puck possession going but not many shots on goal. Too many shot wide or blocked.

by Tina Robinson on Nov 30, 2009 10:07 PM EST up reply actions

Did I hear that the same ref who called the Smith stick-getting-knocked-away shootout move last game was also doing tonight’s?

No – it was just a stick-dropping comparison.

You know, I think I can honestly say that that was the most uninspired game that I’ve ever seen Marty St. Louis play.

Does free customization on jerseys from NHL.com count? Too non-sequitor?

ryanclassic.net

by Ryan Classic on Nov 30, 2009 10:12 PM EST up reply actions

AND 15 percent off

There’s an add on this page that says so. You may have to click it.

So think about that — a customized jersey for a lot less.

Ohlund was back again. Meszaros seemed to have had a good game. Vinny rocked the faceoffs. Konopka tried his best to drag his team into it, but failed. Other than that? Meh, not so much.

On the downside (or not depending if you are a Nitty fan), Smith will probably be back for the next game.
