It just occurered to me who Steven Stamkos looks like
Bill S. Preston, Esquire — Alex Winter from the Bill and Ted’s movies:

(From “The Lost Boys” — he was playing a vampire :-p )
Most triumphant!

You’re a sick, sick man, John. Although, you’re strangely dead-on with the resemblance. I think my head’s going to explode now.
Steven Stamkos, I hereby declare your new nickname to be…Bill. Wear it proudly. And, party on, dude.

Honestly...
…I can’t believe I didn’t think of this before. I kept seeing Brett Hull every time I saw Stamkos but the truth was, that Brett didn’t quite fit.
I’m not even sure why WInter clicked. I think i saw something on the pre-game show with Stammer and it just hit me — the baffled dude look.

Will MontrĂ©al pull out the epileptic-inducing jerseys tonight? Let’s hope not. Please!

Erlendsson reports...
….Tanguay – Lecavalier – St. Louis (the proverbial “French Connection” line) will be startign the game.
Kevin Lowe of the Edmonton Oilers is in attendance and scouting the Lightning. The Oilers have scouted all of the Bolts games this week.

Just means we in Alberta have to listen to yet another press conference where he brags about how he almost acquired someone good.
We in Calgary typically get a big kick out of Lowe’s near misses. Especially when he starts talking through Tambellini, as if the GM has any power at all.
Who would the OIlers have to deal anyway
Lawton’s been rather shrewed as a GM (when ownership isn’t messing with him)

Put it in perspective though
How many players are just vanilla? Bland personalities with no flavor?
Ovie has fun doing what he does. He shows it. And it’s not just with hockey, it’s everything.
To strive, to seek, to find, and to forever keep it Raw. Raw Charge.
I’m sure he is a good guy and yes he looks like he’s having fun. But he shows other players up and that I cannot stand. Like that f’n hot dog act when he scored against McKenna last year. I dearly want someone to whip the snot out of him one time good.
by Tina Robinson on Nov 7, 2009 8:48 PM EST up reply actions
Ovechkin wasn’t out to piss anyone off with that. He’d just scored his 50th goal and wanted to celebrate. If he was out to really get people riled up, he would’ve done it either in front of McKenna (which he didn’t – he was behind and off to the side of the goal), or right in front of the Bolts’ bench. He’s not exactly shy, you know.
Raw Charge, an SBN Tampa Bay Lightning Blog. Calling shotgun in the clown car.

Shy is not a word that has ever been used to describe him.
by Tina Robinson on Nov 7, 2009 8:53 PM EST up reply actions
Ovechkin is always very careful to not offend people – when it’d be so easy for him to do that and then pretend he didn’t understand because of the language barrier. Instead, he’s always apologizing for things people misunderstand. It’s a lot easier for him to say “don’t speak English” than “I’m sorry – i wasn’t trying to offend anybody.”

Then my personal opinion is he needs to learn to tone it down before people get fed up with him and somebody takes a real cheap shot at him.

And unfortunately there are quite a few in the NHL that would do it too. I do not like Ovechkin. I will never like him, but I don’t want to see anybody get a cheap shot that could cost a career.
by Tina Robinson on Nov 7, 2009 9:00 PM EST up reply actions
see, now I sort of have a similar feeling about Sidney Crosby. Although to be fair, it’s not all his fault. The league has so over-promoted him I don’t want to see his face again any time soon
Crosby really needs to take charge of his image, that’s for sure. The NHL has seriously over-exposed him.
Raw Charge, an SBN Tampa Bay Lightning Blog. Calling shotgun in the clown car.
by Cassie McClellan on Nov 7, 2009 8:52 PM EST up reply actions
yes, they have. It’s sort of a shame, too, because without all of that pressure, he’d probably be a much better player
NHL marketing just sucks. Period. The league really needs to figure that out.

But how many games since the last shootout loss?
Assuming we don’t play like the end of the 2nd (in spite of the goal) I really think the Lightning can win this.
Tee hee hee hee hee.

19-12; yes they are. But overall team faceoffs suck. The Canadiens are winning that 55% to 45%. Vinny’s the only one above 50% for the Lightning, winning 5-3 for 63%.

Just posted it a few days ago Dawn

Enzo's been real quiet
Sure he’s been at the center of a few scrums but I’d like to see him on the score sheet
To strive, to seek, to find, and to forever keep it Raw. Raw Charge.
He’s been everywhere but on the score sheet. I think he’s playing great. Except for the fact that he hasn’t shot much.

I mean, look at the difference in size between Ohlund and one of the smurfs…. but I love it.

And the best part is he’s wearing a Lightning sweater. I hadn’t watched him a lot, being in the Western Conference, but he can hit. Hard.

I watched him for years and years in Vancouver. Of course, I used to live/ go to college halfway between Vancouver and Seattle. I was always up in metro Vancouver to watch practice.

Rumor has it Tocchet’s decided to go with Niitty since he’s the hot hand. Likely if/when he cools off, Smitty will have his turn
That would make sense for me. “Frank” has been standing on his head for the last few games. There’s still a lot of hockey to be played. We need both of them at the top of their game.
by Tina Robinson on Nov 7, 2009 9:27 PM EST up reply actions
Not wanting to jinx the team, in my opinion between Nitty and Smith the Lightning has found an answer to its previous goal tending worries.
If he keeps playing well, why stop?
No reason to, but then again, sometimes they do some things that just make you wonder WTH they are thinking too.
by Tina Robinson on Nov 7, 2009 9:29 PM EST up reply actions
Often, in fact.
Raw Charge, an SBN Tampa Bay Lightning Blog. Calling shotgun in the clown car.
by Cassie McClellan on Nov 7, 2009 9:29 PM EST up reply actions
The official team line right now is that Niitty and Smitty are splitting time. Tocchet’s been quoted as saying that you’ve got to go with the hot ’tender. So, yeah, pretty much.

Bummer. I hate those long breaks between games.
But I know the guys need the break to heal up a bit. They’ve been on a tight schedule for the past week or so.

You and me, both! John and I need to start thinking about things to write about for the next four days. Any ideas?

Good: play of Hedman, Stammer. How good Ohlund is. Bad: Vinny's slow start. And Alex.
And the nose dive the power play has taken.

Vinny’s getting booed? By MontrĂ©allers? How funny!

I wondered about that, didn’t know if they were booing Vinny or the play back in the zone they thought should have been a penalty.

More goals but...
They have GOT to start clearing the zone more competantly. Niitty is the reason they have 2 points tonight.
To strive, to seek, to find, and to forever keep it Raw. Raw Charge.
Yes he is. Not exact stealing the points, but he is a very big reason they won (IN REGULATION!! WOOHOO! NO OT OR SO!!)
sorry, just had to express that.

They played a helluva lot better at the end than they did at the beginning.
by Tina Robinson on Nov 7, 2009 9:37 PM EST up reply actions
Very end, yes, very beginning, yes
They just were horrid at points in the middle and almost shot themselves in teh foot.
Niity is playing like an MVP right now
To strive, to seek, to find, and to forever keep it Raw. Raw Charge.
Yes they did. It’s like they had to warm up with the first few games to hit their stride. And now they’ve got a four-day break to lose that again.

I thought that the defense was better. They’ve been the most inconsistent of the bunch.

Better at others. Terribly inconsistent

It’s about time, too. Seriously. But I’d rather have a slow start and a strong finish rather than the opposite.

I like the line that Tocc put together with Vinny, Tangs and Bugsy. They seem to go well. But Marty and Stammer have almost disappeared (off the scoreboard, that is).
by Tina Robinson on Nov 7, 2009 9:45 PM EST up reply actions
It’s like a bad puzzle. The same pieces fit in three different places. But you don’t have enough pieces to go around to cover it all. Malone works well with Vinny and Tangs, but"Bill" Stamkos and Marty do much better with Malone. Marty works well with Vinny and Stamkos, but he can’t play with them both. That part is just frustrating.
Raw Charge, an SBN Tampa Bay Lightning Blog. Calling shotgun in the clown car.
by Cassie McClellan on Nov 7, 2009 9:48 PM EST up reply actions
That's a bright spot indeed
Now if Marty could get his act together too (no goals in 10 games)… This team could be formidable.
