OK, I'm here for thsi one

….with no TV. Maybe I should drop a 20 and catch it on gamecast?

I encouraged Cassie to take the night off. She’s carried the load while I’ve been off and on the last few days. She’s not feelign so hot herself right now.

What’s the update on the tooth Cassie? Guess you haven’t gotten it fixed yet, huh? And John, it’s good to see you up and about, even if you’re not full speed ahead.

I go in for a root canal Monday afternoon. Can’t wait. In the meantime, I’ve got antibiotics and vicodin, if I need it to sleep.

Frank's wife had her baby

Congratulations to the Niittymaki’s… And while we’re talking babies, Enzo has been baking with his girlfriend Carolina and his first child is due in May 2010! Congratulations!

I am here tonight too. Sort of anyway. It may be intermittent contact with me at best. I’m having ‘puter problems…. Or rather connection problems. It doesn’t seem to be my computer as much as my internet connection. Don’t know if the modem is the problem or the connections at my ISP…

"What we do in life echoes in eternity"...General Maximus, Gladiator

by Tina Robinson on Dec 30, 2009 6:40 PM EST reply actions

likely your ISP

I could give you instructions if you want to prove what is the problem…?

To strive, to seek, to find, and to forever keep it Raw. Raw Charge.

by John Fontana on Dec 30, 2009 6:42 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, basically that's what this would be doing

Checkign to see if it’s your ISP (which I think it is) and the general internet — not yoru own personal connection.

Do you know what Command Prompt (DOS prompt) is and how to access it? (trying to gauge how much I need to tell here)

To strive, to seek, to find, and to forever keep it Raw. Raw Charge.

by John Fontana on Dec 30, 2009 6:45 PM EST up reply actions

Um, maybe you better start at the ground floor….LOL… I’m pretty good at following instructions and finding stuff on this computer, but I don’t go digging into DOS (and yes, I do know what that is, by the way)… or any of the commands for the computer. Without proper instruction, I’d worry that I would really screw things up.

"What we do in life echoes in eternity"...General Maximus, Gladiator

by Tina Robinson on Dec 30, 2009 6:47 PM EST up reply actions

This won't screw with the computer, Tina

But I get what you mean.

What you need to do is access the command prompt. Are you using Windows Vista or XP or Windows 7? For most people you can find it by htting Start, then goign to Program Files (or All Programs) and choosing Accessories

To strive, to seek, to find, and to forever keep it Raw. Raw Charge.

by John Fontana on Dec 30, 2009 6:53 PM EST up reply actions

Windows vista. And I’ve got Command Prompt up. Right where you said it was…

by Tina Robinson on Dec 30, 2009 6:54 PM EST up reply actions

Excellent

OK, type this in:

tracert google.com

Basically what is going to happen when you hit ENTER is that it will show the path that the computer takes over the internet to get to the domain google.com. There will be a lot of stuff that comes up (line after line). You don’t need to pay attention to the jargon, just look at the numbers that pop up on the left side of the list. If there are a lot of *’s that show up instead of numbers, then there is an issue with yoru ISP or on the internet in general.

Hit return and the tracert will begin.

To strive, to seek, to find, and to forever keep it Raw. Raw Charge.

by John Fontana on Dec 30, 2009 6:57 PM EST up reply actions

Ok… It ran. Took it a couple of min, but yes, there are *s and some numbers on the left side in 10 rows. (along with the “jargon” too)

"What we do in life echoes in eternity"...General Maximus, Gladiator

by Tina Robinson on Dec 30, 2009 7:01 PM EST up reply actions

The stars represent trouble spots

…where the traffic isn’t running right. So it SOUNDS like it’s an Internet issue in general. if the first lines of the Tracert were riddled with *’s, it’s an ISP issue

To strive, to seek, to find, and to forever keep it Raw. Raw Charge.

by John Fontana on Dec 30, 2009 7:06 PM EST up reply actions

Then its my ISP… stars in the first 3 lines. Well, good to know it’s not my modem going wonky (technical term). No surprise if it is my ISP…they seem to have problems at least once a month. And the numbers (with ms beside of it) are pretty large. Must be some serious traffic out there… all those electrons are trying to get out of town for the holiday weekend, I guess… LOL

"What we do in life echoes in eternity"...General Maximus, Gladiator

by Tina Robinson on Dec 30, 2009 7:08 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

The jargon represents ISP's and locations

If you had mroe time you can dissect what each line says and where they are.

The numbers on the left are time for information data to reach this point. They’re measured in milliseconds.

I think the slow start doomed both him and Vinny. If they had been scoring better early, then they’d both have a better shot. But since there are soooo many good forwards to choose from, I think was just a case of go with the hot hand. And neither got the shot. I think the time to rest with be good for them.

Apparently “heart” doesn’t matter to Steve Yzerman and team Canada. Nobody shows more heart than Marty St.Louis. looking at the roster, Canada is made up of a bunch of centers that are going to be converted to wing. Canada will not win the gold this year. How can you leave off guys like Shane Doan and Marty St.Louis? doesn’t make sense to me.

by KyleGuthrie4 on Dec 30, 2009 6:52 PM EST up reply actions

Philosophy

The same Philosophy that had St. Louis ignored by most GM’s coming out of college: he was too small to be a legit player in the league.

Yzerman loaded up on guys from Western Canada – where he himself is from. He also named Niedermayer the team captain – and they’re both from the same small town in British Columbia. So it appears to me that emotion played more into the picks than logic did.

The NHL better not botch the Classic up in the future

One outdoors game a year on New Years day is the best PR they can have. Make it a true classic. The NCAA botched up the bowl games by overdoign them and spreading them out. I used to LIVE for that one big Bowl Game day of New Years Day….

Not sure, probably Canada as I will recognize the names, but I will be biased towards teams with Lightning players (who I recognize the names of) . So Sweeden will make it with Ohuland.

“Technically” NZ does have an ice hockey team, its just 3rd division so probably get hammered by almost any US college team.

I flat out love goalie duels

All too often strong goalie efforts get disrespected when it’s a no-name goalie stopping the other team. All too often, close games are a failure of the offense and not strong play by the opposing netminder. That’s how I’ve had people approach me about ceertain efforts anyway. No respect for the goaltenders, and even more slime to dump on the Lightning for not overcoming the other goalie.

True. Got a penalty against the Lightning coming though. If the Habs have such a good power play, it’s probably a good thing we’re not giving them a lot of PP opps. The only penalty the Lighting have taken to this point is that phantom hooking on Downie.

Never had any formal classes or anything in French. I had 3 yrs of Latin and 3 yrs of Spanish. I decided early on that French with a Southern accent like mine just is not good. Some things are best left alone. And after hearing the French teacher at my high school mangle the accent, that’s one of them….

There have been a lot of chances but

there have been more perimeter shots by the Bolts on Price than anything, huge rebounds that the Habs have played out of their own end … and turned over in the neutral zone.

Oh I have a question: Can people go watch a practice in Brandon? or are they closed?

by Dani Toth on Dec 30, 2009 9:33 PM EST reply actions

If they practice in Brandon, it’s an open practice. If they practice at the St. Pete Times Forum, it’s closed practice. That’s the general rule. I’ve been to many a practice in Brandon, actually.

It’s pretty easy to find the rink, too. The team has the rink info on their website. I believe there’s a phone number there, too. They should definitely call first before going to it, tho – to make sure it’s not canceled or moved.

by Sidicus on Dec 30, 2009 9:47 PM EST up reply actions

Dang, that could have gone better.

I have to go soon, but my thoughts (biased as they are) was there were a few more penalties that should have gone the Bolt’s way, particularly in the latter game when the Habs were trying to push Smitty around.

Thanks for the commentary, have a great new year and hope to see you all in 2010.

Really disappointed that the team did not start playign with effort until the third. That goof up in OT is the reason why you can’t play games close.

Too little too late by the time the Lightning started to play. Smitty was great and deserved a better fate than what he got. He quite literally stole a point for the team tonight.

by Tina Robinson on Dec 30, 2009 9:48 PM EST up reply actions

Well lemme say it...

Lightning fall to the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 in Overtime. They now have 40 points on the season and end 2009…. 2009 had too many low lights from last season and this season so far. Hopefully, turning the page to 2010 will see the Lightning turn back to prosperity.

The Winning-streakless continues as the Bolt sstill have not igured out hwo to string three WINNING efforts together. Two in a row? They do that from time to time. Three? No. Non. Whatever.

Mike Smith took a nasty shot in the 1st and played his ass off the rest of the game. He deserved a better effort from the guys in front of him.

Goodnight all.
