Due to repeated technical difficulties and other problems beyond my control, no preview post tonight for the Oilers/Lightning matchup. Todd Fedoruk makes his first start in nine game tonight and the starting lines have been revamped... Again. Those line combos are below the jump.

OK, I am totally gettting tired of this crappy hockey....
I am ready for the Bolts to kick some serious butt tonight!!
I think there are issues present that are preventing that
But that’s a long story to be written.

Konopka will be wired with a mic tonight on Sun Sports
To strive, to seek, to find, and to forever keep it Raw. Raw Charge.
Hi Kyle, no he will not be playing
He did not make the trip. His back gave out.
To strive, to seek, to find, and to forever keep it Raw. Raw Charge.
Ha!
This is like the 3rd time he’s come back to Tampa and hasn’t played. Deslauries is a solid young goalie though. and hello john!
How does history change if Nik remained in Tampa?
If they didn’t wipe out a year of contracts, a number of things may have gone diffeent for the Lightning since play resumed in 2005.
I do wish Nik well but it is odd he hasn’t played once when he’s visited with Chicago … or now Edmonton
To strive, to seek, to find, and to forever keep it Raw. Raw Charge.
Although...
maybe he wants his last memory of playing in the forum to be him and his teammates hoisting Lord Stanley’s Cup?
Matt Smaby is dressed
Is he simply participating in a pre-game skate? Or is he playing?
To strive, to seek, to find, and to forever keep it Raw. Raw Charge.
Wondered that too. Haven’t been able to find the scratches for the game listed. I know Tocc wasn’t pleased by that last game and some giveaways by certain defensemen. May be a case of sitting Krajicek? (still can’t spell that damn name…)

well, you spelled it right in English. in Czech, well, that’s another story entirely. but English works. for now.

Read somewhere that he is, but the ever flexible “Fozzie” is moving back to D for the game tonight. Wonder if that means it’s Hale and/or Krajicek sitting for this one?(there, HA! spelled it right again!)
by Tina Robinson on Dec 9, 2009 7:18 PM EST up reply actions
Out.
Todd Fedoruk is playing that fourth-line wing position and it would appear Matt Smaby is dressed. I do not know who will be sitting this out. Besides Foster unless Fozzie is playing in place of Hale and Smaby in place of Krajicek.
To strive, to seek, to find, and to forever keep it Raw. Raw Charge.
Can’t find anything listing the scratches yet. And my Gamecenter Live isn’t up and running for another 7 min or so, so I’m stuck on that one.

I don't plan to be commenting much durign the game. Maybe I will in the end but I want to write a story before I totally let the thought pass.

Dang, Foster out? Did like how Foster was playing in such a flexible role.
Anyway, my work has been “suggesting” people do not spend any time on facebook or other non-work related activities during working hours, so won’t be asking many questions but hope to read this every so often, so please continue commenting during the game if you can as will be reading.
Well, with Kyle and John out and Jonathon not able to do too much in the way of commenting, looks like it’s down to (or up to, if you will) us Cassie. Unless our Vancouver contingent comes a’callin’
they might. maybe it’ll be an all-girls game thread. then we can have all kinds of fun. or not. ;o)

i’m not sure if i have to go thru the team first or not – he should probably ask, for future reference if nothing else.
but if i can do it directly, i’m up for that. i could email the questions to you, and you could pass it along to him. or, if he says it’s alright, you can give me his email address and i could do it directly. whatever he’s most comfortable with. just let me know – or have him email me, i guess.

the Oilers are ahead 3-2 after two. Hedman got his second goal of his rookie season.
the Lightning are being out-shot 24-19, tho St. Louis has five shots on goal (mostly because Lecavalier keeps passing him the puck). Faceoffs are still good, but they’ve dopped down to winning 62%; Lecavalier is 12-5 (71%). Fedoruk has three hits, Tanguay & Hedman each have two turnovers, and seven players each have blocked a shot.

If he’ll just leave them the hell alone I think it could get both of them going again. It’s almost like they (management/coaches) WANT Vinny to fail… scary, but that’s how it looks to me. Like they WANT him to want to leave. But then again a full NMC will do that. But they made that bed. Now they get to lie in it.
by Tina Robinson on Dec 9, 2009 10:25 PM EST up reply actions
pretty much. should’ve thought of that before they offered him that contract. and that’s what they get – all of them, including Vinny.

Personally
From what I did see, I wasn’t impressed. Oh, there was effort by the top guys — except Stamkos who everyone is crapping on now. But it descended into a puglist event. distracted from the game. If tocchet wants that (and he’s said no but it keeps happening) he really needs to just get a thug and be done with it.

i’m not crapping on Stamkos now. i dish that out whenever i see the need for it. his faceoffs have been horrible for the past few weeks – and i’m not afraid to point that out to those bloggers crushing on his goal scoring abilities, either.

I do believe Frank needs to be playing more. But coach is gonna ride that other horse till it dies, I guess.
i’m not convinced that that’s Tocchet’s decision. i think that might be coming from on high.

Then somebody needs to smack Lawton (or Koules) on the back of the head with a 2 × 4. Or put a giant rubber band around their head and tell them to snap out of it…..

seriously. what’s more important? playing the guy with the bigger paycheck or getting wins to bring people into the building?

Downie and Killer played well. Zeke, well, he was just Zeke....
Learned something tonight though…. he does like to talk out there on the ice. And on the bench.
which is a good thing. you want people to be talking it up. it keeps everyone focused.

Spirited effort BUT...
…they’ve lost 9 of their last 13. The offense has looked mostly anemic the 4 of the past 6 games. They are a .500 team after tonight. They clearly cannot challenge for the division and realistically are going to hover around the 8, 9 and 10 spot in the conference.
Outside of Konopka, Downie and Hedman, this TEAM is, well, very blah.
4, 26, 91, 77
Vinny deserves credit for bringing a strong game tonight

You need grit but I’d rather have the skill. Skill can be gritty too.
by Tina Robinson on Dec 9, 2009 10:28 PM EST up reply actions
define “grit” and then get back to me. grittiness is an attitude, not an ability. frankly, i’d rather have players with ability and not attitude.

Grit is hard to define. Go as 10 coaches at any level to define it and chances are you’ll get 10 different answers.
by Tina Robinson on Dec 9, 2009 10:30 PM EST up reply actions
Tocchet wants players who played like him, he doesn’t want gritty players. he’s mistaken grit for ego. it’s not like he was Gretzky – who had zero grit, by the way. he just played with him.

So, how long before it becomes a “coaching issue”? or is it already? Is Tocchet on the “hot seat” and is feeling it getting a bit warmer? Could we see another coaching change in the middle of the season? And would that be enough to turn it around and snap them all out of this rut they have run themselves into?
by Tina Robinson on Dec 9, 2009 10:34 PM EST up reply actions
it’s not a coaching issue. yet. it’s still a Vinny issue. people are so obsessed with Lecavalier rumors that they can’t get past that right now.

They will never get past “Vinny issues”… even after he’s retired and bought the Tampa Bay lightning, there will still be rumors that he’s going to come out of retirement and play for the _________________ (insert whatever team you want here)….
by Tina Robinson on Dec 9, 2009 10:38 PM EST up reply actions
It’s like they are using “Vinny issues” to deflect the real problem. And until that stops, the Lightning are never going to become the team they could be.
by Tina Robinson on Dec 9, 2009 10:40 PM EST up reply actions
and the sad part is that they’re not necessarily true – it’s just a smear campaign.

by Tina Robinson on Dec 9, 2009 10:43 PM EST up reply actions
i think it’s a coaching issue, but that’s just me. i’m in the minority. everyone else seems to think it’s a Vinny issue – despite a few players on this same team having similar issues.

No, I agree. Or me and you are in the small boat. But if it were JUST Vinny, I’d say yes, but Marty, Alex and a couple of others… no that’s more than just a player issue.
by Tina Robinson on Dec 9, 2009 10:29 PM EST up reply actions
thus my statement
This team is managed for grit. “Gritty skill” is what is desired. Wrong group of players to try that with. You can get it out fo the kids who will do anything to stay in the NHL. But veterans?

here's another fail with this style
That was pre-lockout. The game changed vastly after 2004-05 was wiped out. Remember how bad some of the old time players were in the new system? The grit, the hard hitting slowness? It was all wiped out.
Tocchet is a product of that style. Melrose had last managed during the old era. That’s two FAILs right there. Two HC’s who aren’t playing to team strengths or who aren’t even set up for it.
