How does history change if Nik remained in Tampa?
If they didn’t wipe out a year of contracts, a number of things may have gone diffeent for the Lightning since play resumed in 2005.
I do wish Nik well but it is odd he hasn’t played once when he’s visited with Chicago … or now Edmonton

Wondered that too. Haven’t been able to find the scratches for the game listed. I know Tocc wasn’t pleased by that last game and some giveaways by certain defensemen. May be a case of sitting Krajicek? (still can’t spell that damn name…)

Todd Fedoruk is playing that fourth-line wing position and it would appear Matt Smaby is dressed. I do not know who will be sitting this out. Besides Foster unless Fozzie is playing in place of Hale and Smaby in place of Krajicek.

Dang, Foster out? Did like how Foster was playing in such a flexible role.
Anyway, my work has been “suggesting” people do not spend any time on facebook or other non-work related activities during working hours, so won’t be asking many questions but hope to read this every so often, so please continue commenting during the game if you can as will be reading.

I took 10 minutes to make a single grilled cheese sandwich for her a month or two ago. Took my time and did it right. Spent another hour making penne, too. Turned out well.
I don’t like cooking usually, but something about doing it for someone I adore makes it way more fun to do.

the Lightning are being out-shot 24-19, tho St. Louis has five shots on goal (mostly because Lecavalier keeps passing him the puck). Faceoffs are still good, but they’ve dopped down to winning 62%; Lecavalier is 12-5 (71%). Fedoruk has three hits, Tanguay & Hedman each have two turnovers, and seven players each have blocked a shot.

I think the coach made the right decision to put Marty and Vinny back together. And if Stammer and Bugsy are out for any length of time, they may have no choice but keep them together. And that can be a good thing.

If he’ll just leave them the hell alone I think it could get both of them going again. It’s almost like they (management/coaches) WANT Vinny to fail… scary, but that’s how it looks to me. Like they WANT him to want to leave. But then again a full NMC will do that. But they made that bed. Now they get to lie in it.

From what I did see, I wasn’t impressed. Oh, there was effort by the top guys — except Stamkos who everyone is crapping on now. But it descended into a puglist event. distracted from the game. If tocchet wants that (and he’s said no but it keeps happening) he really needs to just get a thug and be done with it.

i’m not crapping on Stamkos now. i dish that out whenever i see the need for it. his faceoffs have been horrible for the past few weeks – and i’m not afraid to point that out to those bloggers crushing on his goal scoring abilities, either.

Spirited effort BUT...
…they’ve lost 9 of their last 13. The offense has looked mostly anemic the 4 of the past 6 games. They are a .500 team after tonight. They clearly cannot challenge for the division and realistically are going to hover around the 8, 9 and 10 spot in the conference.
Outside of Konopka, Downie and Hedman, this TEAM is, well, very blah.

Tocchet wants players who played like him, he doesn’t want gritty players. he’s mistaken grit for ego. it’s not like he was Gretzky – who had zero grit, by the way. he just played with him.

So, how long before it becomes a “coaching issue”? or is it already? Is Tocchet on the “hot seat” and is feeling it getting a bit warmer? Could we see another coaching change in the middle of the season? And would that be enough to turn it around and snap them all out of this rut they have run themselves into?

This team is managed for grit. “Gritty skill” is what is desired. Wrong group of players to try that with. You can get it out fo the kids who will do anything to stay in the NHL. But veterans?

here's another fail with this style
That was pre-lockout. The game changed vastly after 2004-05 was wiped out. Remember how bad some of the old time players were in the new system? The grit, the hard hitting slowness? It was all wiped out.
Tocchet is a product of that style. Melrose had last managed during the old era. That’s two FAILs right there. Two HC’s who aren’t playing to team strengths or who aren’t even set up for it.
