Rick Tocchet - what do fans think?

With the season in it's waning games, it's getting around that time where we should be reflecting on what has transpired over the course of the last few months.

In some lights, it's highly difficult to fairly gauge Interim Head Coach Rick Tocchet -- the team record alone says he has done a poor job, but the fans know of the situation he inherited.  There was a great deal of baggage lumped onto his shoulders from the Barry Melrose Error Era: a poorly conditioned team, an unstable roster that was put together in a hasty fashion, a team that had been using a round-about-trap system through an abbreviated training camp and learning-on-Vacation European Tour...

All of which were presented a rather large hurdle to try to overcome.

Still wearing Interim next to his title of Head Coach, Tocchet would look at those reasons as excuses.

I had credited the start of Tocchet's tenure not so much as the day he took over, but December 18th.  It was the first game after an in-season training camp but that's not a universally accepted truth, now is it?

So we here at RawCharge ask you to rate Tocchet's job performance.  We'd also love to hear, through comments, about pluses and minuses from decisions and games that lead to your rating.

Knowing that Tocchet did not get first say with this team

…before camp started and what not, I wanted to vote incomplete because early control may have resulted in a lot of different things with this team.

But he’s done well even with the circumstances. Not great, but well enough that should have earned him removal of “interim” from his head coaching title.

Well....

I’m not sure that he’s done all that well, really. But the players seem to think so, and they’re the ones who’d know best. Or so you’d think. So I compromised with what I ended up voting for.

What have you done for me lately?

Problem is that he would have made a stronger case for removal of the term interim had he finished the season strongly. His current slide (4 games and counting) might not help.

OK Hockey has knee jerk reactions but...

…if they literally believed that, he would have been out by the All-Star break.

Besides, there aren’t other TV people to hire for this job… Unless they want Don Cherry’s suits parading at the Forum, or perhaps Pierre Maguire :p (that’s a jab at the melrose hire)

Considering the season-starting catastrophe that was Barry Melrose

And how poorly Stamkos started, things are looking up since Tocchet took over.

I’m hoping that the team improves for next year, it’s hard for me to watch them now.
