Video of Ovechkin / Downie / Bradley [UPDATED]

For those who missed it, here is video of the altercations (to say the least) between Steve Downie, Alex Ovechkin and Matt Bradley from tonights Tampa Bay Lightning / Washington Capitals matchup.

A solid hit turns into bad blood... And then bad blood boils over... That's all I can say about this.

Star-divide

We'll be looking for the entire incident in a better video through the day, but let me give you the video from the NHL on the initial hit that started the entire Ovie/Downie affair:

Another Update:  The Sun Sports video of what happened after Downie and Ovie left the box (basically a continuation of what you saw above in the NHL.com video).  Hat tip to Taiter in comments and Hockeyfights.com:

Downie vs Ovie

Was at game . If Ovie wanred to Go he had more than enough time to go . They messed with each other out of box – Separated , then approacehed again. by then Bradley was there . Video does not represent entire sequenece of events. Bradley was 3rd man in but Ovie was asking for the figtht. – should have been off ice as long as Downie

You're right this is a poor-man's video

I’ll look for the complete sequence today. Downie and Ovie dropped’em and were squared to go before Bradley swooped in. Bradley got the gamut of penalties for his action 2-5-10-Game.

Sun Sports coverage from YouTube, which also showed part of the line change, and Downie coming out of the box (1:08 in)

I should be sound asleep... but it's more fun to watch the Hockey!

This game was probably the greatest game I've ever been to.

The way the crowd erupted, then proceeded to “boo” Ovechkin each time he touched the puck… I was proud to be a Lightning fan.

I can’t wait to see them both play again in DC on the 31st!

hey guys, Caps blogger here

seen an awful lot of “dirty hit” calls going around today on the check by Ovechkin that started everything last night, led i guess by Halpern’s quotes after the game. wanted to get your opinions on it. i’ve rewatched the replay a dozen times or more today and just don’t see it. i didn’t see any commentary to that effect here on your page, just wanted to get your opinions now that you’ve had a chance to re-look at it.

FWIW, i can’t imagine the Caps going out and acquiring an enforcer for the game on the 31st.

best,
Dave

Dirty hit? No.

I can’t say it was dirty…. I thought it was a good, solid hit but the WHO on both sides of the hit set things off.

I mean, I get the fact people don’t like Ovi and want to see something happen that involves him so they can lay blame on him… But untess I get an intimate view of the hit from a certain angle that shows an elbow, or some other body form hitting Downie in a way it shouldn’t with Ovi showing it was a premeditated hit… Well, that’s the only time I’d change my opinion to say it was dirty.

Mattias Ohlund has laid out guys on hits like that. Ovi and Downie were both still standing… I just don’t see it as dirty.

Interesting quirk though

There is a missing frame in NHL video (above)… A frame durign the hit. Things get crossed up.

9:12. Lights out. Raw Charge.
