UPDATED x2: Lecavalier to have surgery Monday on broken hand

[Note by John Fontana, 11/14/10 12:00 PM EST ] Through a press release by the Lightning this morning, it has been confirmed that Lecavalier will have surgery on his hand on Monday.  The official release can be found below the jump.

Original report from Saturday evening:

This evening, the Vincent Lecavalier Foundation announced the postponement of a Monday's scheduled fundraiser  "SideBern's Halfway to Winefest" with Vincent Lecavalier, which they've been promoting the past several weeks.

The statement  shared on Twitter and Facebook, reads:

Regrets to inform you that SideBern's Halfway to Winefest is being postponed. Vinny is having surgery Monday on his hand. We will get you the new date asap. It will be happening very soon! All previously purchased tickets will be honored.

(emphasis added by me)

Lecavalier sustained his injury at approximately 6:30 into the first period during the 6-3 loss to the Washington Capitals on Thursday night.

He temporarily went to the locker room for assistance at 11:49 of the first dressing room, returned to play 17 shifts and 14:29 of ice time.  By third period, Lecavalier could no longer hold a stick, according to reports, and was sat for the remainder of the game.

The team had already declared that Lecavalier would be out for 3-4 weeks with the non-displaced fracture, but there had been no reports of the need for surgery.

[Note by John Fontana, 11/13/10 9:15 PM EST ] The Foundation has removed their comment on Facebook to the postponement news and surgery claim as of approximately 9 PM.   Below you will find the earlier report with a link to the now deleted comment.

The team's original report that Lecavalier should be able to return to action in 3-4 weeks has not changed.
