It's the most maddening week in pro hockey each season: The NHL trade deadline. Stay up to the minute on news, speculation and coverage on all 30 NHL franchises at the SB Nation NHL trade deadline hub.
This will also represent Raw Charge's open thread for discussing league transactions today. Feel free to post in comments. We'll be running stories throughout the day with any major happenings with the club.

Tomas Vokoun has agreed to waive his NTC
…to certain teams, at least. So the Panthers will be sellers at the deadline, potentially. How far the sale goes remains to be seen.

Tampa Bay Lightning players have been notified their flight out-of-town has been moved back to post-deadline 3:30 PM and not to be surprised if moves are made.

Hello, just seen this thread. How long until the deadline hits?
Sounds like things are just starting to happen.
I would have guessed the three big players to move would have been Halpern, Tanguay and Nitty. Really thought Smith would be the main guy in the net for the next couple of years so rumours somthing is happening is a suprise.

Bolts get Ted Purcell and a 3rd round pick for Halpy.

Purcell is apparently a player along the lines of Bochenski
No idea why Bolts wanted him, unless to flip in another deal. They cleared 2M in cap space (prorated) with Halpy out. This guy has 600K (prorated) cap hit. I can see Halpy for the 3rd, but no idea why this guy is a throw in…

Semi-related question for anyone who knows:
What is the difference betwen RFA and UFA. I know UFA is “can deal with whoever they want” but what rules stop an RFA doing the same?
Also how many trades generally occur on trade day? Is this year higher or lower than previous years? Are we still expecting a flurry of activity?
UFA can sign with anyone, anywhere
RFA means that the guy is property of the team he was last signed with. He COULD be signed by another franchise, but there would be a necessity for compensation on the signing. Usually draft picks.

Thanks John, so basically he can only sign with his current team unless another team is willing to compensate the players current team.

Here’s a quirk though, an RFA may become a UFA if the team does not make a “Qualifying offer” to that player. Usually it’s just a 10 percent increase from the last season salary.

There may be a late flurry (like in the next 10 min) and a few trades will show up after the deadline because they can’t make them public until AFTER the trade call, but it’s been slow. Most of what has moved so far this year has been third line, support guys. Nothing other than the Dion Phaneuf blockbuster and that trade with Cal/NYR for Joikinen et al. But I think a slow day was actually anticipated because so many teams are still “in the hunt”.

I am off now...
