Ohlund out indefinitely with ankle sprain
Assistant team captain and defensive leader Mattias Ohlund has missed the past two games with what had been an undisclosed foot injury. It was revealed by the team after yesterday's loss to the Penguins that it's an ankle sprain and that Ohlund is now out indefinitely as he recovers.
Damian Cristodero wrote a blog post about the Lightning injury woes and about Ohlund's status before the team took to the ice for yesterday's game:
Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Mattias Ohlund was limping noticeably through the Lightning locker room this morning with ice around his left ankle. Coach Rick Tocchet said Ohlund is getting "aggressive" treatment for the injury, which Tocchet said has not required tests but is obviously more than just a bump.
There is no timetable for Ohlund's return, and forwards Ryan Malone and Zenon Konopka remain sidelined as well with their own injuries.

You know, I was going to come over here and make a snarky comment about how bad I feel for Ohlund (no, I don’t), and then realized something. I am torn with my thinking of the Lightning.
I love what is happening with the team. Stamkos ripping it up is awesome, you signed Fozzy, and “The red headed step child.” Two guys that deserve to be on a team, and we were sad to see leave MN. I love that the team is playing well, and doing so in a so called “non-traditional” market. I love the people at Raw Charge. So there are tons of positives…
But then the GM fired Wes Walz, which irritated the crap out of me. And you have Mathias “bleeping” Ohlund on the squad. What is a hockey fan to do?
For now, I’m going to just say this. You’re better off without the hack in the line up. Enjoy your time off Mathias. Nothing but love for you up here in MN.
I guess this means...
…Meszaros isn’t getting benched any time soon. Not exactly the news that you want to hear with the team still in the hunt for the 8th spot. Smaby looked better against Pittsburgh than he had in the starts before his benching so that’s a positive. I wonder if the club is going to ride this out or call someone up from Norfolk?

Having missed Caps game, that explains
a) Why Stammer’s now an Alternate
b) Why waste-o’-space was paired with Lundin
Drifting slowly, lower and lower, until we reach the front row in Los Angeles come June...
