So Ryan Martin is not coming to Tampa Bay

That’s a first for Yzerman — the first one who resisted him.

sit on him

One more year. With better (saner) management at both levels of the Bolts, I think they can manage him and the 2nd goalie much better than Lawton/Tocchet did last season. If he proves a liability… sned him on a conditioning stint and call up Tokarski / Janus.

He’s not a grinder. He’s supposed to be a goal scorer. I mean, that’s not a bad combo — actually perks my interest… But I’m wondering if he will struggle there like he struggled in LA with the more physical game?

"Seen Cincuenta" -- 04.10.10 -- Raw Charge.

by John Fontana on Jun 15, 2010 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions

He seemed to fit in pretty well after the trade. Of course “coach” never left him on any one line long enough to get chemistry with anybody, but he did seem to play well with VL.

So maybe put Killer on line with Vinny and Marty? He’s sound defensively and can skate very good. He did score his first goal on that line. Maybe he would do well if the coach would put him there and leave him alone.

I have come to a conclusion... Martin St Louis = waterbug on meth...

by Tina Robinson on Jun 15, 2010 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions

It could work. The people I’ve talked to from Bolt Prospects don’t even have him on the radar… I think they’ve compared him to Ryan Craig/Blair Jones. Guys not going anywhere.

I really hope that’s not where James is going…

"Seen Cincuenta" -- 04.10.10 -- Raw Charge.

by John Fontana on Jun 15, 2010 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions

I think he is better than either of those guys. Jones had a chance (several actually) to make it with Bolts and he just never got going. I’m not impressed with him. And neither of them skate as well as Killer…

I have come to a conclusion... Martin St Louis = waterbug on meth...

by Tina Robinson on Jun 15, 2010 8:12 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought Craig was going to end up replacing Andreychuk — adn be like Dave. He got hurt and has become a career minor leaguer.

he did have

nice chemistry with them. But yeah I think third line is a perfect spot for him. Get some stability, play well defensively, work on his offensive game. He’s not a pure sniper but he’s not 4th line banger.

But in all of these scenarios, it doesn’t mean Dustin is backing p the other guy. It doesn’t mean Smith is gone.. It just says the goaltending needs to be solidified and all options are on the table.

Yeah. Allen coached (and played) for Charlotte Checkers for a number of years. The head coach/gm for the Checkers is/was an old Bolt…Derek Wilkinson. He was a goalie. Played with Bolts Vinny’s first year.

the guy that owns Checkers franchise (Michael Kahn, I think is his name) bought the Albany River Rat franchise and is moving it to Charlotte. It will become the Charlotte Checkers. The ECHL franchise that was the Checkers has been sold to group in Greenville SC and it will become an reincoarnation of Greenville Grrrowl. Stay in the E. Don’t know if Rangers will maintain affiliation or not. Charlotte was afiliate, but they may change now.

Fozzie / Tanguay

OK, so here’s a Free Agent question: Does Boucher’s system actually reverse Foster’s chances of being re-signed? And Tanguay’s for that matter?

Speedy D, Foster is not. And Tanguay may have had a horrible season, but the system was not one for which he should excell in. Though he IS on the downside of his career from how he has played the last few seasons…

He’d’ve been a 3rd or 4th line guy, probably playing only 10-15 minutes a night – mostly on the power play, and likely as a winger at even strength. At least, that’s what I would’ve thought. He would’ve been a great help on the PP, but probably just another cog elsewhere. At least, with his ankle/foot still bothering him like it reportedly was.

And the Flyers reportedly left the offer on the table for him for next season as well. The only good part about his foot problem is that it’s saved the rest of his body from the wear and tear he’d been wrecking upon it, so in theory he’d be doing fairly well. If he didn’t have a foot problem.

Here’s the $64 milllion question – will Marty St. Louis play for the Lightning this season?

Although I read somewhere that Stevie Y wants to talk to him about an extension. So who knows.

I don’t know if Marty carries a grudge over the team Canada thing or not, but I do believe he is too professional to let it interfere with his play.

But yes, I have read (Mike Corcoran) that Yzerman wants to talk contract with both St. Louis and Stamkos.

The Lightning have used four of their last seven top draft selections...

On Defense. And only 2 of those guys are still with the Lightning, only one has played significant minutes with the Bolts.

Mike Egener (Retired)
Andy Rodger (Toronto)
Vlad Mihalik (Tampa / Norfolk)
(Helenius)
(Tyrell)
(Stamkos)
Hedman (Tampa Bay)

So a lot of first round fails. But I want to note that after Egener was drafted, Matt Smaby was selected. And I believe Mike Lundin was taken after Andy Rodgers… So while high draft picks have failed, the draft itself hasn’t.

If Yzerman hasn’t already been in contact with him and seen what the deal is, I would not even botehr. I’d treat him as dead to teh world. I think he has a lot to explain to the public — or at least try. And he has a TON to prove with all the time he has lost (playing time) between injuries and this MIA stuff.

Personally I’d cut him loose. He’s been awol for almost a year now…if he didn’t want to come back last year when the Bolts were pushing for the playoffs, then screw him. there would always be questions about his desire to play.

It’s easy to get comfortable just talking abut it between friends… But that’s also a complacency (I’m guilty, guilty, guilty of this — I don’t write every idea I talk in private about). Even this conversation we’ve had tonight has a mix of stories to write about and elaborate on…

OK, tanguay and Fozzie and Guy Boucher’s system. That’s a an idea for a story. Does this hurt Fozzie? Does it help Tanguay? Can the Lightnign afford to lose Fozzie’s Right Handed deefensive shot?

"Seen Cincuenta" -- 04.10.10 -- Raw Charge.

by John Fontana on Jun 15, 2010 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Well…. Boucher said he doesn’t coach a system, he coaches players. So I would thing Fozzie and Alex both have a chance. But then again, a right handed shot on the PP is HARD to find. Would be hard to lose him. But Fozzie certainly isn’t fast, by any means.

Goaltending

Anyone have any thoughts about trying to obtain Dan Ellis from Nashville and get Ramo back from the KHL. Ellis is a good starting goalie and salary is within range. Ramo still property of the Bolts. Played well in the KHL. I wouldn’t go another year with Smith.

by munchkin11 on Jun 16, 2010 10:52 AM EDT reply actions

I’ll second the motion—though I’d prefer Price (even if, as the Ottawa Sun has the rumor, it means giving up on Marty). Perennial forces in the NHL build from the defensive zone forward—and the last thing I want to see is Flyers, Part II: “just one goalie away from a Stanley Cup.”

by MTBoltFan on Jun 16, 2010 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions

This is the first time I have seen Ellis’ name paired with the Lightning. Focus has been on Price with rumors for a while.

I would not mind bringing Ramo back to North America instead of investing in other goalies from outside the system. Between Ramo and Vasily Kochechkin, the Bolts have rights to wo KHL netminders and basically that adds to system depth…
