If you wanted Dan Ellis and his awesome twitter nonsense, it’s not nearly as likely.

He’s a good goalie too. Just having Ellis gives you the advantage of claiming you’ve got the hippest goalie on the market (and get to listen to other teams tell you to get off their lawns)

So, was anyone as shocked as I was
…about the first few picks of the draft and the Fowler fall? With how they were projectign the draft, it really surprised me how it went down.
"Seen Cincuenta" -- 04.10.10 -- Raw Charge.
Shock started right about the time the Bolts took Connolly instead of Gormley. And continued. Wonder what or why those two D got passed over so much? Nothing I had heard about either of them appeared to be bad. They both dropped like a lead weight for a bit.

I’m surprised that he went so high since most teams are leery of injured players. Frankly, I still think he’s a good choice regardless. But I know that I’m in the minority on that.

Hello
Over at BSH we’ve discussed (for eternity) who will be the Flyers goaltender next season. The UFA crop is pretty thin, but the potential positions are even less so. I really only see options for a #1 tender in Philly, San Jose or Tampa Bay. What do you all think will happen regarding the Lightning goalie situation, I’d be very interested to hear. Is Mike Smith a legitimate #1, do you have anyone in the AHL that could be called up etc?

yeah, it’s been very mixed since he came to Tampa. we got to see his potential after we got him from Dallas and things looke good for the future. then, a certain Vinny Prospal accidentally runs him in practice, and it’s been downhill ever since. I still want to see him get one more shot though. I think if he focuses and gets his mind straight, he can be a good starting goalie.

Nope. He’s been a lot more inconsistent. Not just in terms of wins and losses, but also simply how he plays. Although, to be fair, the defense really sucked in front on him. Still, that didn’t seem to bother Niittymaki so much.

Jay Pandolfo dislocated his shoulder in like October (at the same time Paul Martin had his horrible arm injury). He recently had surgery to repair the shoulder (like in May). I went back and read some of the stuff on Fire and Ice, and the reports said Pando had a dislocated shoulder. I guess a player wanting to be on the ice and helping his team sometimes overrides logic.

Oh, definitely. Steve Downie speared himself in the gut one night – freak accident – and he left the ice on his own power. They later took him to the ER to get checked out. He then took a cab back to the arena on his own, suited back up, and was playing in the third period. Idiot coaches for letting him do that.

you know, he’s been talked about alot and has always had high praise, but I never saw it. now granted, I’m far from being a pro scout, but it seems like he gave up the puck to much, couldn’t skate back to make up for his mistakes, and just didn’t seem like the smartest player out there. I didn’t like him, still don’t really. just my opinion though, I’m probably completely wrong.

He’s a pretty good defenseman. Maybe not as good as advertised, but still a worthwhile addition. Or, at least, he was. Who knows now.

Ranger had a great first pass out of the defensive zone and was a good skater, but he would get a serious case of the yips when he was under pressure.

Sigh. That is really the brain exploding question. We’ve talked about it to death on BSH. I would say the split between people who want to keep him and who want him to leave is about 50/50. Homer says he’s not moving, but really he is a great asset and could get a very nice return as well as clearing some cap space.
Me, I don’t know what I want to happen to him

Carter will cost more in the long run. Unless Holmgren gives him a contract like Richards got.

That’s why some people are pro moving him before we lose him for nothing. He’s got one year left at $5 million before he’s RFA, so the Flyers could get compensatory picks or assets now. He’s a natural goal-scorer so he’s pretty valuable
New Zealand's 4th best Philadelphia Flyers fan
Devils have a similar problem w/ Parise. Though It’s doubtful that he gets traded, mainly due to most of the Devils $$ coming off the books in the coming years ($4.5 mil from Arnott, $2.8 from Langs, $2.5 from Pando in 2011, $5.062 from useless meatsack Rolston, $3 mil from White, $2.9 from Salvador and up to $5.2 from Marty), so it’s not a problem.

Carter isn’t the #1 star forward for the Flyers, Richards is. IMO Parise is the undisputed #1 for the Devils, and so that’s why he is more likely to be kept.
New Zealand's 4th best Philadelphia Flyers fan
Plus Richards signed a long term contract. It seems pointless to trade someone with a long term contract anyways, Carter has 1 year and is an RFA afterwards, meaning teams can negotiate a new deal w/ him.

Bernier had a tough season, which may have been due to a sports hernia. Grabner wasn’t going to crack the top 6, and really isnt a 3-4th liner, in that his D is suspect and he certainly isn’t a grinder. The 25th pick, I’m not losing any sleep over. The only problem I have is Oreskovich. I’d much rather have picked up McArdle.

Remember, we carried a ton of D-men in 2008-09 but th quality ws crap and kept breaking down. 2009-10 waas again quantity over quality. And they did not all respond well to the system.

I do have two questions while I remember:
1. What do people think of Connoly (his attitude and potentially playing for the bolts)
2. I read somewhere that Propsal may be a free agent this season? Am I making this up and if not what are his changes with the “new” Lightning team?
Prospal is not coming back. Sorry to come off stern on this but three times already with the Bolts, and yet he is STILL being counted against the cap for his LAST time with the team, because he was bought out.
Time to move forward…..

What annoys me about them isn’t them… It’s the people bitching about them.

The birds
just started to sing outside. And the sky is somewhat less dark than it was few mins before. Dammit.

Have any plans for today, Kat? Other than sleeping at some point, of course.

You can sleep when you’re dead? I had a boyfriend who said that all the time. It was his favorite phrase.

Yeah. Problem is being at work for the 1PM games. (And having a boss who follows hockey so knows when I am not actually doing enough work).
Still better than 1AM when I would be unconcious and then tired for an entire day.
The best was this year’s playoffs. Staying up till 5 in the morning every other day. What a bliss.

It was bliss because it invovled the flyers? Still have to get and watch the last game of the playoffs (shame on me, my friend who is currently unavailable has it).
I wish I could remove “the last game of the playoffs” from the Earth. Well… If you sent me a copy of it, I might commit some violent act on it. THAT would be bliss.

Okay, with this talk of sleep, I should go. My alarm goes off in a little less than eight hours. And waking up is traumatizing for me. So I’ll catch you guys later. Thanks for stopping by, and hopefully I’ll see you all next week!

Lemme stress a point that Cassie made there
not about sleep. The fact that we do this weekly. Link dumps and open threads. Every Tuesday night at 7:30 Eastern / US time. Everyone’s always welcome.
"Seen Cincuenta" -- 04.10.10 -- Raw Charge.
I do like the regular-ness of the open threads, though attendance can be sporadic depending on how much the rock I live under needs cleaning.
Right, it was dea last week. The week before it was hopping.

This thing is lagging pretty good for me now, and with the girls gone, I think it’s actually probably best to shut it down. It’s not that conversation cannot continue on here… I’m just saying I won’t be around for it.
It was great tonight. Fantastic. Wish the thunderstorm didn’t interupt it.

Thanks for the comments and conversation. I will still be here though I am working so will not not commenting very often at all.
If you REALLY get bored, Jon, I suggest you go over to boltprospects.com/forum. Instead of a live conversation, it’s a message board. Those guys know their stuff.
