Damian Cristordero reported late yesterday, citing reports from Detroit that Pat Verbeek has been hired by the Lightning as pro scout. This is officially Steve Yzerman's first staff hiring as GM.
News last week crept out that Yzerman had sought permission (and received it) to talk to Ryan Martin, who serves as Wings Director of Hockey Administration. The Verbeek news had been treated as an afterthought in grander reporting about Martin.
