"It's always a surprise and a little bit of shock when a team you played for for 10 years asks you to move a no-trade clause," gagne said. "The deal with the Flyers was for me and my agent to talk to other teams. That was the only way were willing to do it.
"Tampa Bay was the team that was really interesting to myself and that's when we started talking to Steve Yzerman and we able to make something happen with them. I was willing to waive my no-trade clause only for Tampa Bay, not for other teams."

MAH BABYYYYYYYYYYY!!!
(pretends she had no impact on Simon’s decision)
I love the Lightning AND the Flyers... go ahead, preach me!
Dare to follow my childish, biased, petty and cheesy alter ego.
American Cheese, B!tch!
Thought you weren’t going to be happy with Gagne being traded? Even to Tampa?
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

It’s definitely a better outcome for her than most of us.

True. However, as sad as I am that he is traded and as pissed as I am that Homer put himself in a position where he had to do this to Gagne when it could have gone down differently, I am at least glad it is a team that I do not have a deep rooted hatred for.
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

Yeah, the last part of your sentence is what I’ve been thinking too.

This. And not only that, but the Lightning have excellent potential this year. It’s only July, but surely the Lightning have to be one of this coming season’s dark horses. Simon is with a good team and if the Flyers can’t hoist the Cup this year, I will be hoping that Gagne will be afforded that opportunity.
Chris Pronger stole my last signature.

Thanks for the kind words, Erex21, ToddtheFox and JFein. Classy fans.
And JFein, I may be a Lightning fan but even thinking as objectively as I possibly can, I think your description of the Lightning as a dark horse is spot on, although I think the unstated goal of this season should be to reach the playoffs. Anything beyond is gravy.

You’re very welcome. You will find that despite the bad rap that Philly fans have rightfully earned, there are still classy fans amongst the fools.
And now if you could please do us a favor and take care of our boy. Gagne isn’t the 40 goal scorer he used to be…though I honestly believe with Vinny or Stamko’s centering him, he could approach that again, but regardless of that, Gagne is one of the best two way forwards in the game, he is a veteran leader and a great guy on and off the ice. You will not hear a single person in Philly say a negative thing about Gagne(other than he is injury prone, but thats a fact not a slight) and that right there should tell you something. I hope Gagne signs an extension with the Lightning and he rides off into the sunset on his own terms. The Lightning have a new supporter in me. I truly mean this, if someone other than the Flyers can’t win the cup, as long as Gagne is on this team, then I will hope Tampa can be that other team. (Though I will say if Tampa wins a 2nd cup before the Flyers win a 3rd I might break something)
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

We’ll try and rid him of the filth and disgust that is Philly :)

Well if you want to take that angle…good luck, Gagne said he will miss the fans most, I am sure he will miss them more when he gets to Tampa and see’s 3,000 people at the games…:)
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.
