Only 7th, huh? Well, it certainly is an improvement over last season, anyways. Tho that sets up a Caps-Lightning matchup in the first round of the playoffs if the season were to end that way. Which I’d be okay with – that would mean I could go to games!

Worst LIGHTNING reporting of the off season was the notion that the Lightning were going to (by default) hire Minnesota Wild people because Jac Sperling was helping with the executive hunt.
What a failure on the media’s part, and what an underestimation of Jeffrey Vinik for that matter!
"Seen Cincuenta" -- 04.10.10 -- Raw Charge.
Lots of folks have underestimated Jeff Vinik since he bought the Lightning. Underestimated Stevie Y too for that matter.

by TB_hockey_fan on Jul 27, 2010 8:51 PM EDT up reply actions
I think underestimating Vinik has been more profound. “He’s not a hockey person” instantly labeled him a fool by some. To invest in a non traditional market team like he did, to go into ownership with no hockey background…
It doesn’t take much researcdh to know Vinik is no fool. And not a knee jerk reactionary as some would paint him.

Have bad contracts from the 2005 offseason (the begining of the new CBA) factored into the cap issues that are affecting the league today?
"Seen Cincuenta" -- 04.10.10 -- Raw Charge.
I think horrible cap management since the beginning of the Cap system is part of the cause. Owners didn’t figure out the system right away… And that has lingered.
"Seen Cincuenta" -- 04.10.10 -- Raw Charge.
by John Fontana on Jul 27, 2010 9:09 PM EDT up reply actions
The owners need to be saved from themselves...
for the most part. Too many loopholes in the current CBA that let contracts like Hossa’s, Louongo’s and that perversion they tried to sign Kovalchuk to get through.

And with a new labor negotations, the Union has prepared for war instead of constructive bargaining. So instead of fixing loopholes,k they want to blow the whole bloody thing out of the water.
That is not going to fix the loopholes, or improve the CBA.
