Former Lightning GM Jay Feaster Joins Flames
Jay Feaster, the former GM who put together the Lightning team that defeated the Calgary Flames in the Stanley Cup Final in 2004, has joined his former adversaries. The Flames announced Thursday that Feaster will join their team as an assistant to general manager Darryl Sutter.
Feaster, who left the Lightning after being nudged out by the Lightning's dumbass new ownership at the end of the 2008 season, will apparently act as an adviser to Sutter.
But that's not something he's ready to admit.
"I'm not coming there to be the general manager of the Calgary Flames," Feaster told TSN.
The fact that Feaster won his Cup ring over the Flames is not mentioned in the Flames official news release, but apparently the fact is not forgotten by Sutter or his bosses. "He's an old enemy," TSN quotes Sutter as saying.
Feaster was responsible for several key additions to the Lightning leading up to their 2004 championship, including adding veterans such as Darryl Sydor, Cory Stillman and several others.

Help wanted
Trading Phaneuf for magic beans and some used pucks, signing Jokinen to an inflated contract…yep, Sutter could use all the help he can get.
Congrats to Jay Feaster
Jay Feaster did a great job adding the missing pieces that lead to the Bolts winning the cup in 04’. Unfortunately, whether because of cost issues or lack of knowledge, he remained blindly loyal to a pathetic amateur scouting staff which in effect ran this team off a cliff, so his firing by the cowboys was justified. Say what you want about the Cowboys but they did put a solid amateur scouting team in place and we could start to reap the benefits as early as this season.
Don in St Pete
Feaster actually wasn’t fired by the Cowboys, but he was neutered and put into a corner and resigned on his own terms when he realized he was being pushed out.
Lets also not forget — and you’re onto this when you bring up poor drafting — that Jay had a knack to mismanage the club when trying to address a need. For every good move (the stuff in 2003/04, the Shane O’Brien acquisition — there was a bad one that trumped it and robbed the team. Well, the Goalie situation is what brings that on. Bet on Grahame, double down with Sean Burke, FAIL. Bet on Marc Denis, gamble away Freddie Modin to get him. FAIL. Bet on Riku Helenius as goalie of the future. FAIL. Bet on Mike Smith, gamble away Brad Richards, FAIL, FAIL, FAIL….
