The St. Pete Times Forum announced via Facebook the "Lightning Launch" weekend at Times Palace. The main aspect of the announcement was an October 8th concert by Stone Temple Pilots, but it will be part of a larger event to coincide the start of the 2010-11 NHL season. The full announcement, as it was posted on Facebook, is below:
The Grammy Award-winning Stone Temple Pilots (STP) will kick off Lightning Launch Weekend at the St. Pete Times Forum on October 8 at 7:30 p.m. The fun-filled weekend will include the STP concert on October 8 and the Tampa Bay Lightning’s first home game of the 2010-11 season on October 9 at 7:30 p.m. The concert festivities are scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m., and will include exciting elements designed to entertain all Lightning fans.
Lightning Launch Weekend marks the first time in franchise history that the Lightning organization has created a fan weekend in celebration of opening night. Fans will have the opportunity to greet Lightning broadcasters, personalities and alumni, as well as Thunderbug and the Lightning Girls. Attendees will also be able to enter-to-win great prizes. This one-of-a-kind event is the perfect way for fans to show their appreciation for the team, and celebrate the opening of the 2010-11 Lightning season.
2010-11 Full-Season Tampa Bay Lightning Ticket Holders are invited to attend the Stone Temple Pilots concert at no charge, and partial plan holders are eligible for special ticket discounts. A private VIP party will be held on the Club Level for all Season Ticket Holders, and will include food and beverage specials. Plan holders will receive additional information via electronic and regular mail.
Legendary rockers Stone Temple Pilots stood high atop the Alternative music mountain in the 1990's, landing 15 singles in the Billboard Top Ten with such hits as "Big Empty," "Plush" and "Vasoline." Coarse guitars, sweltering vocals and an excessive pedigree served as a highway for this California quartet to ride for nearly twenty years. Their five-album discography has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. In Spring 2008, STP officially revealed that the band were reuniting and launched a massive 2008 concert tour encompassing over 65 dates and hitting all corners of North America. Marking the first national tour for Stone Temple Pilots in almost eight years, the tour brought the iconic band’s charismatic musicianship and exhilarating live shows to amphitheatres across North America. Scott Weiland, Robert DeLeo, Dean DeLeo and Eric Kretz roared back onto the music scene in early 2010 with the release of a ferocious self-titled disc.
The Tampa Bay Lightning will open its 18th National Hockey League season on Saturday, October 9 when they play host to the Atlanta Thrashers at 7:30 p.m. The matchup will feature special pregame activities on the West Plaza, including live music, schedule magnet giveaway, food and beverage specials and more. The hit band ZO2, stars of the show Z Rock on cable innovator IFC, will sing the national anthem. Following the game, the band will perform a free post-game concert on the West Plaza. Lightning personalities and alumni will be in attendance, along with Thunderbug, Lightning Girls and the Bolt Brigade. Fans will also have the opportunity to enter-to-win special prizes.
I expect more details about the launch weekend as we get closer to the season. Stay tuned for more details.
