Lecavalier to undergo minor arthroscopic procedure
The Tampa Bay Lightning issued a press release today stating that captain Vincent Lecavalier would be undergoing a "minor arthroscopic procedure" on his left knee in Tampa on Tuesday. The full of the release is as follows:
The Tampa Bay Lightning announced today that center Vincent Lecavalier will undergo a minor arthroscopic procedure on his left knee on Tuesday, August 24 in Tampa. The procedure will be performed by Lightning Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Ira Guttentag at the Florida Medical Clinic.
The recovery time will be 3-4 weeks and Lecavalier is expected to be ready to participate in the Lightning’s training camp, which begins Friday, September 17.
It's one of those surprising things that sneak up before training camp from time to time with players. It's not to be unexpected but it's surprising none-the-less.

I'm not the only one, right....
I’m not the only one that’s scared by not knowing this beforehand, right? It’s kinda odd to have it done so late in the offseason. Does anyone know hoe it happened?
I agree, I thought that it was a little strange that he’s having it so late in the summer. But then I remembered that his girlfriend and him welcomed their new daughter back in May, and it makes sense. You don’t really want to be laid up with a newborn in the house – particularly when you’re first-time parents.
There's nothing quite like the sound of a frozen puck hitting the glass. It makes me happy.

Cool Photo
I love that picture. Maybe he’s blasting a one-timer or taking a quick wrister. Or maybe he’s on the PP and it’s a cross ice pass to set up Stamkos for a one-timer. Whatever it is, it looks cool with the blood running down the side of his face. It just has “warrior” written all over it. Or better yet- “hockey player” written all over it.

Weird
I really don’t get why is it happing so late. He didn’t play since April (?) when he had that wrist surgery, non? So why a knee now? That has me worried.

MINOR, I repeat MINOR procedure!
The meniscus is the kneecap, essentially a thick piece of Floating cartilage that protects the front of the knee joint from damage. With a torn meniscus what usually happens is a flap on either side of the tear folds under during exertion causing an irritation or impingement which leads to discomfort and swelling. The surgery typically involves shaving the cartilage on one or both sides of the tear to create a symmetrical surface that does not cause the impingement or irritation. While they have you cut open they typically vacuum up any detritus, which could also cause irritation and swelling. This is similar but less severe than the general cleanup the Chris Pronger just had done. V4 should still be able to train and lift, he’ll just have to insure he doesn’t break the stitches or contract a staff infection.

Yeah. Pronger just had one. I know that. And he was supposed to be ready for Flyers training camp as well. Now they are not so sure about it.

It’s fine. I’m supervising the procedure. No worries.
