Tuesdays with Dani: Renovations and buying yourself some 2004 bling
Yes it's back. Your weekly round-up of links from around the hockey interwebs compiled by me, are back for another season. Let's not waste any more time, here is this weeks edition:
Your Lightning links:
- Jeff Vinik is blown away by what $40 million in refurbishments can do for a place. For $40 million, I should hope that a renovation blows you away (Lightning Strikes)
- WB Philip has your week in review of the Lightning
- Although we haven't seen it yet action during a game, the Tesla coils are pretty awesome (Lightning Hockey Blog)
- Want to buy a 2004 Stanley Cup Ring? There's one on sale on ebay from the zamboni driver. It starts at $10,000 and you have 5 days left to buy it (link via Puck Daddy)
The rest of your links after the jump...
Your links from around the NHL:
- The Jets won their first game this season and as Mike Halford puts it "Tanner Glass cemented himself in Manitoban lore this evening" (PHT)
- Ryan Kesler makes his season debut for the Canucks tonight against the Rangers. Many fantasy hockey owners rejoice (The Province)
- Drew Doughty is out for 7-10 days with an upper body injury (LA Kings Insider)
- Jeff Carter re-injures his foot with a hairline crack after blocking a shot (Puck-Rakers)
- Of Kurtenblog fame, Mike Halford and Jason Brough have joined ProHockeyTalk as new writers
- Brooks Laich feels that players are being 'babysat' by the concussion protocols and would really just like to play hockey (Puck Daddy)
- The Hockey Blog in Canada on why Shanahan is doing the right thing for the NHL in trying to crack down on hits to the head
- Flyers Goal Scored By has the real reason why Nabokov is back in the NHL
- Russian Machine Never Breaks has your translation of Slava Malamud's interview with Alex Semin for Sport-Express. It's awesome. What else is? Slava Malamud's #SashaCares meter on his twitter
- Bruce Arthur on how Don Cherry will be missed when he is no longer on your TV (National Post)
- Does Jay Feaster seriously use the word 'playoffs' when describing his Calgary Flames? Burgundy from Stay Classy would like to have a word with him about that
- Shane Doan, saddles and wanting to stay in Arizona (Globe and Mail)
- Kevin Weeks with some insight as to why goaltenders give up a lot of goals on shots that come from the goal line
- After your hockey career is over, what happens next for a player? The transition to civilian life brings challenges that are not normally talked about (Montreal Gazette)
- Some writer in the Ottawa Citizen refuses to call a jersey anything but a sweater because he's Canadian. I'm Canadian and think he should get over it. And for the record, I call it a jersey
- The top 10 NHL tweeters according to Tim Kolupanowich of The Hockey Writers
- It's not just the Lightning that are going through a rough stretch out of the gates, both the Bruins and Canucks are dealing with a Stanley Cup Hangover (Yahoo Sports)
- Down Goes Brown's has your hockey fan's guide to the World Series
- And lastly one of my favorites also returning this week is the return of The Royal Half's Pundays. Av a nice day!

Pierre LeBrun during TSN’s Insider Trading segement yesterday mentioned the Lightning are in the market for a top 4 defenseman.
I can’t post a URL for just the video (it’s a Flash component of the main page), but the it’s in the list of video on the right of their main hockey page, found here.

wouldn't that be lovely?
I feel like Clark, Hedman, and Brewer are legit top 4, but they number only three.

But the rub is exactly as Pierre describes: what do the Lightning have to offer in return? Most team’s aren’t going to go for belly lint—though JM got Holmgren to do nearly that very thing, admittedly.
