The fifth meeting of the season between the first-place Panthers and the Lightning is set for this evening. The flip-side of a back-to-back, home-and-home series between the two teams. The Panthers are secure in their position atop the heap in the Southeast Division: Going to overtime last night, coupled with with the Washington Capitals loss, the Panthers sit on a three-point lead over the 2nd place Caps, and a four-point lead over the likes of the former-Thrashers and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Tied for Third place in the division and looking for their first back-to-back wins since earlier in the month, the Lightning are also questing to get back to .500 (thank you deceptive, three-column win/loss record) and show they will not concede the division to the Panthers.
Can the Tampa Bay Lightning do it again tonight and earn another two-points?
No word on Steve Downie this morning. Downie did make the trip to Sunrise but did not participate in practice. He "worked out" off ice from published reports.
Meanwhile, Dana Tyrell, making his season debut, took 13 shifts last night with just over 10-and-a-half minutes of ice-time.
I'm not going out on a limb in guessing Mathieu Garon will make another start tonight. He faced 24 shots in 60+ minutes of action last night. That's not exactly a total that calls for extra time off to recuperate.
