Tuesdays with Dani: St. Louis returns to practice with the team
Great news about Martin St. Louis tonight. NHL.com writes that St. Louis traveled with the team to San Jose today and returned to practice with the team. He wore a full cage during the drills today at the HP Pavilion but there is no timetable yet to whether he'll be back in the lineup tomorrow or on Friday in Colorado.

I'd give anything back to get another shot at that year. It is what it is now. I'm just trying to learn from that experience and move on." (Lightning Strikes)

Okay. I admit to clinging to straws when it comes to good news, but according to NHL.com, MSL’s broken bones weren’t as bad as I had somehow gotten the impression they were. : “a broken nose and a hairline fracture of his orbital bone.” I’m less concerned about that now than I am about the eye. I hope he’s not taking any unnecessary risks with that, of course, but I’m still slightly relieved.

Yeah, but if he has eye problems the rest of his life, that wouldn’t be so stud-like, would it. I’d feel better if he sat out another week or two. Face bones and eyes are nothing to mess with.

I wasn’t saying anything about him playing—for the record, I don’t think he will until after Christmas. Just practicing after taking that puck makes him a stud in my mind.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he played this weekend. He must drive his wife to drink. That poor, poor woman!

it was more than that
a nose and an orbital bone won’t keep you out 24 hours, let alone two weeks. If they were talking about blood filling up the eye itself, there had to be some sort of internal cut. But as long as it’s stopped bleeding and all the blood as been metabolized, he should be good.
If I cared more about my UNC side, I'd call myself "Tar Volon," and that'd be awesome.

Some orbital bones
are extremely thin, even paper thin in some areas. The blood in the eye is not unusual as the eye is full of tiny blood vessels that can rupture from trauma. That blood will dissipate over time. But you don’t want the increased swelling and pressure to cause a blowout of the fracture thereby endangering the surrounding muscles and nerves. The fracture is important and the full extent or lack of extent can not always be fully visualized soon after the injury.
The article on Connolly disturbs me slightly. How many different coaches need to tell him to have a good work ethic and that he can’t rely on talent alone? Is he a Russian in disguise? :-)
