What's Wrong With the Lightning's Defense?
I try to answer the question that's on everyone's mind. Basically, depth is killing us. Hedman and Brewer are a great first line, but after that the Bolts are pretty barren (/obvious points are obvious).
I also include a comparison with last season's squad, which I found interesting. The stats make Ohlund look to be rather below average...that jive with what people remember?

CAustin...just in case you don't see my response over there, I'll copy it over here.
I should have clarified about the shots numbers, but I forgot I was being a bit more specific: I got them from BehindtheNet.com and used the 5v5 shots averages. So whoops, good catch.
But yeah, the Bolts aren’t doing a good job overall with the shots against…and that didn’t show up in the above stats because they’ve been ATROCIOUS on the PP/PK. Like, woh. It’s bad.
I love Casey Fossum. Now try and take me seriously.

Ohlund hits well enough—but he and Kubina are defensive liabilities more often than not. What makes Kubina tolerable is his contract is only through this year. Ohlund has an albatross that will be hanging around this team’s neck for a few more years (unless he grants the team a repreive and retires earlier).
