Scratch Stamkos?
Okay. Now that I've had about 24 hours to calm down and think about things a bit, I've come to this.
If I was Guy Boucher, I would think about scratching Steven Stamkos for Game 5 against the Penguins.
There. I said it--well, sort of, it's actually typed. But you get the point.
Yes, I would think about scratching him. I think of it in three ways. First, the Bolts aren't getting any production from him. According to the NHL.com website, he's got a single point in four games, is -1, and has 2 PIM. Clearly Blair Jones, Mattias Ritola, or even playing Marc-Andre Bergeron as a forward wouldn't do much worse in a single game.
Second, the scratching might actually benefit the boy. If he's scratched, I'm sure he wouldn't be happy--but he'd be hungrier. Just a couple of days ago, Boucher mentioned in the paper he wanted to make a point to Stamkos that being a Top 6 forward isn't automatic. What better way to re-ignite desire is there?
Finally, watching the game from the press box would be a great way to get his slump off his mind should the Bolts return to SPTF on Monday in Game 6. He's clearly thinking too much on the ice--see his whiff on the open net in the 3rd Period in Game 4 as Exhibit A.
Scratch Stamkos? Yep, I said it. But I think you may think it, too.

deff agree
Ive been saying it but my brother said they would never do it because what if he was the difference and scored a goal that could have won us the game and we lose the series on saturday with the leagues 2nd overall scorer sitting in the press box. If they were to bench him they should have done it in game 4. Now I dont think they can. even tho they should. I REALLY hope Jones gets in the lineup for game 5.
This should have happened earlier
Like during the regular season when it was clear that he was both struggling to score and a defensive liability. Given that game 5 could very well be our last this year (yes, I’m a pessimist) I think he needs to keep playing at the very least for the experience of being in an elimination game.
Also, if I were a coach I would be careful and clear when sending messages to a star player who’s about to become a RFA (and yes, I have legitimate fears about not re-signing him).

I agree. The time has passed on this one. It was a regular season action.
Typing is an adventure, and reading should be, too!

Brilliant idea! Seriously. I think they should.

Yeah, so did I… I THINK it was a Stamkos sighting…
Why, yes, it was a Stamkos sighting… wouldja look at that….
ROFL
Seriously, It was very good to see Stamkos and the others get into the game today in a big way. Three potential hat tricks-Stamkos, Kubina (of all people!) and Gagne. 1 down, 2 to go.
Trouble on the ice? Wait! Andre Roy could fix it!!
