Crisis averted: Disney On Ice dates re-scheduled
Whether you're a Lightning fan with little ones or if you're a Lightning fan who wants to focus solely on the task at hand or if you're just a huge Woody and/or Buzz fan (there's no judgment here; I'm a Team Buzz guy myself), you may have been keeping an eye nervously on one particular storyline developing around the NHL Eastern Conference Finals: the potential conflict of dates between the Tampa Bay Lightning's series with the Boston Bruins and "Disney On Ice presents Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 3".
Well, breathe easy; management at the St. Pete Times Forum and event promoter Feld Entertainment have worked out a new schedule that will accomodate both events at the Forum next week.
There were probably a couple tense moments as this was hashed out, but ultimately this kind of thing is not all that unusual and it was in both parties' interest to come up with a solution, which is what they did. Four performances were cancelled (new show schedule as well as ticket refund/exchange policies listed below) and a new opening night was added.
Surely, Feld Entertainment would rather be flexible than risk alienating potential patrons who are currently whipping themselves into a frenzy over the Lightning. And as for the Forum, anybody who's lived in Florida for any length of time knows you don't want to step too hard on The Mouse's toes.
"Feld Entertainment has enjoyed performing for Tampa Bay families at the St. Pete Times Forum for more than 10 years. We are happy to adjust our schedule to support the Tampa Bay Lightning and still perform for our Disney On Ice fans." -- Bill Powell, VP, Event Marketing & Sales, South Region, Feld Entertainment
The performances originally scheduled for Thursday, May 19th (7:00 PM), Friday, May 20th (7:00 PM) and Saturday, May 21st (11:00 AM, 3:00 PM & 7:00 PM) have been cancelled. Refunds will be given for those performances. Ticketholders interested in attending another performance will need to buy new tickets.
The new opening night will be on Wednesday, May 18th at 7:00 PM. Tickets for that show will go on sale Monday, May 16th at 10:00 AM.
COMPLETE REVISED SCHEDULE
- Wednesday, May 18th, 7:00 PM
- Sunday, May 22nd, 1:00 PM & 5:00 PM

I’d be embarrassed about this appearing on the site, but I’m too busy laughing at the ridiculousness of it all!
File this squarely under “You can’t make this stuff up”

Raw Charge.
This reminds me of the 2006 Ottawa-Tampa Bay first-round play-off series in which a game at ScotiaBank Place was postponed for a ‘Dora the Explorer’ show. It was mentioned by Don Cherry on Coach’s Corner, and an Ottawa paper ran a mock interview with Dora, in which she recounted how her mother wouldn’t let her listen to ‘Señor Tortorella’ because of the ‘grown-up words’ he used.
Glad that’s resolved for all parties.
Boston sport radio was discussing this and how it seemed we could have had a major delay between games 3 and 4.
I keep looking at things and think it’s utterly ridiculous. Games 3 and 4 of both our series thus far have been effected by other commitments at the Forum: Round 1 saw Lady Gaga and Iron Maiden (I think?) performing concerts over the weekend before; round 2 (as forementioned on other posts) was forced into a back-to-back affair to accomodate the University of South Florida graduatiion ceremonies that they could not hold at their own venue (Sun Dome, which is undergoing renovations).

Gaga delayed the our series with Montreal last month as well.
That was actually the second delay that series due to commitments at the Bell Center.
Rush was playing there between Games 3 and 4.
Question: Which performer would you rather be delayed by? ;-)

This.
Gaga, not so much.
"They are uncanny. When they want to get a goal, it's like they just snap their fingers or hit a button. They just dial it up. You can see it. It's like they flip a switch. When they are down, it's just like they think, 'we know we are going to score.' I don't know what it is, it leaves you flabbergasted." - Mike Knuble, 3 May 2011
Montreal was also the only team that managed to win at home the game after a gaga concert

That explains Montreal’s size: They’re Little Monsters.

Well played, Mr. Fontana. Well played, indeed.
