So, I was all feeling good about how far we've come for the past day
but now I’m nervous. I don’t want our season to end tonight. I want (for personal reasons) our season to end on June 11th with the Bolts hoisting the Stanley Cup. But right now, I’ll just take another game Friday.

He does his job well – to deflect interest from the real people running the league, the Board of Governors. I think he gets blamed for far too much. Most of what goes on in the NHL isn’t his decision.

Personally, I find him a little creepy, but he doesn’t deserve most of the backlash he gets. He’s really just a figurehead. Does what he’s told, and he gets the blame for it.

that does not mind him. He gets vilified, but the guy did save Edmonton years ago. I get getting out of ATL though. Thats two teams now they refused to support, and Winnipeg gets their team back.

love the man. bettman? not so sure. but Gary’s that quote was a viscous word soup! easily 10w-50!
overall bettman gave me more of a sense of command about the game as he ever has. after (how many?) 20 years of being commisioner, he is starting to understand the game some. congrats Gary!
at least he was giving the franchise an endorsement. I’m sure the Rays would love to hear Bud Selig talk as nice about them!
So did y'all see the article on tonight's ref?
In his last four Tampa Bay games, there have been 24 minor penalties against the Bolts and 9 for their opponents. In the last three, Ryan Malone alone has recorded seven two-minute minors. I hope this is not an issue tonight because we’re head by so much, but I’m not entirely sanguine about that.

That’s a little ridiculous, especially since we’re not exactly a goonish team. I love our PK, but if we could not use it quite so much, that would be great.

I lived there for 7 years – went to college at Western Washington. And I used to go up to Vancouver all the time to watch Canucks practice in Burnaby. I grew up west of Seattle, tho. Picked up watching hockey with the WHL.

The thing is, he’s too close to the game persona.lly. HIS style, HIS preferences, HIS days as a player.
He doesn’t note his inconsistencies and he’s too friendly with the press to get calle dout for his bullshit.
They need a third party, like a retired judge or a lawyer, to take over league discipline… With someone like Kerry Fraser assisting becaues they DO have a track record with the game.

But then I’m one of those irrational people who has no time for half-baked conspiracy theories, coaches whining about officiating and the concept that every game should end with the same number of PIMS for each team regardless of what actually happened…

Tough first for the Bolts
They simply have to be better. The penalties killed any momentum they had and turnovers by Brewer and Stamkos did the rest. It looked like Stammer got high-dticked but rather than trying to see the call he needed to be bachchecking but he didn’t and it let to the go-ahead goal.The Bolts need to be way better from here on out to advance, but especially, Clark, Brewer, Stamkos and St. Louis.

Exactly. We’re happy to have him now, because he’s a tangible asset. Even though he has his faults, Sequin + NoName would be question marks and we’ve had plenty of those that didn’t turn out very well.

For what the ‘Nucks needed, he was perfect. When he was with the NYR, they were hoping for him to be one of the team’s leading scorers, and it got to him. Still put it a terrific effort, but every shot he took missed.

I managed to get in, and I applied from Ottawa
But it WAS for arts, which is pretty much the easiest to get into no matter where you apply. I spent parts of five years there. Total waste of time and money. I’ve learned more in one year of broadcast school than I learned in that entire time at UBC.
It’s probably the right place for a lot of people, but it wasn’t for me. I never graduated. I spent more hours working for the school than actually attending classes by the end of it.

lol I took a few 1st year courses in the fall
that I didn’t need but wanted to have and it was weird lol
but having an 18yr old kid guess that I was like 3-5yrs older than them felt GOOD!
lol I probably would have more trouble admitting my age if everyone didn’t constantly guess it at 23-25 lol

after many changes was Physical Geography :)

For the most part, I like growing up
I don’t need to hit the bars every Friday night to be happy. I prefer wine to beer, both of which I prefer to hard liquors taken in shots. I don’t do it enough, but I like reading in bed. I enjoy going to bed early, taking naps, and grumbling when the weather sucks (which is often here).

IB = International Baccalaureate. It’s a two-year program, so we got a bunch of Ontario credits in between, including MDM4U.. so I don’t remember which year it was :S

I got a low C, then took stats last year, which really has nothing to do with math. Then one epic 2 month long studying 70’s-rock music montage later I’m cleared to take the hard class.

I had a C in the class, but in NY you have to pass a state final to pass and I missed it by 4 points. Didn’t help that I had the worst teacher ever. It’s the only class that I’ve regularly fallen asleep in.

It’s mostly because of the general anti-Toronto and anti-Leafs crap that’s everywhere in the country but seems to be even more passionate in Vancouver. Plus the bandwagon effect that inevitably follows the last Canadian team standing… it’s very very annoying.

If you live in another city in the country for any real period of time, the anti-Toronto sentiments make a lot of sense. So much of the country revolves around Toronto, and there’s definitely a feeling that it shouldn’t be that way. It leads to resentment.
i can honestly say that the anti-Toronto vibe is much stronger in Ottawa, and I’m not just talking about hockey. The nation’s capital vs. province’s capital thing is a real contentious issue. In Vancouver, it’s less so. The anti-Toronto stuff comes from the city having Toronto forced upon it when they’d much rather run things themselves.
It’s hard to describe, but I don’t think it’s something you can appreciate without living outside of Toronto.
And don’t get me wrong: I like Toronto as a city.

Oh yeah, I definitely know where it comes from. Even from watching national networks, shows, movies, etc., it’s pretty obvious Toronto’s the main focus. But that’s just how it is; we’re the most populated city, and the financial and entertainment hub of the country. And I’ve been to Ottawa many times, their Toronto hate is so cute :P

Living in Ottawa is totally different from visiting. We definitely get screwed by Toronto in many ways. There’s absolutely an inferiority complex.
Thing is, Toronto’s not as big of a, say, entertainment hub as most people there think they are. That’s where the resentment comes from. The city acts bigger than it is, and people here feel like they don’t get any respect. Which they don’t, really.

There’s either grumbling from the Blues fans or grumbling from the Blackhawks fans. All of which is drowning out the hopeful grumbling of the Jr. Blues to not be as streaky as they were last season in the NAHL.

Someone who knows more about goaltending than I do...
have an opinion on his style. He’s been pretty frustrating this series, but it seems to me like a lot of his great saves come because he’s out of position alot.

He’s just a battler. He seems to me sort of like Mike Richter was. He never gives up on a play, but you make a good point that a lot of his saves are because he gets caught out of position sometimes. I think that’s because of 2 things-1 is that he can be too aggressive at times, and 2 because he’s got a good defensive team in front of him, which means he can put everything into stopping initial shots. Other than that, I wouldn’t call it a style.
