Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and once again welcome to Raw Charge
We’re an hour away from the puck drop and that’s why we’re open for business. But before we get into things tonight, let me remind everyone:
Keep it civil.
Caps fans, you’re allowed to remark. But if your comment is simply cussing us out and cussing out the team out of bitterness. Well, there may be someplace better for you to post.. And it ain’t here.
Similarly, if you’re posting raunchy pictures in celebration — think twice before you do so. We’re trying to cater to a wide variety of people on the site, and… well, sometimes the funny raunchy thing is not the best way to make a lot of people laugh. Know thy audience.
Anyway, that being said, I heard there is a hockey game tonight….

Caps fans – how do the odds feel? 3 out of 162? 1.8%?
An if by some stroke of chance the Caps can pull off the miracle, they are going to be gassed for the next round. Considering that one of those three was last year, and it almost happened again, it seems VERY UNLIKELY.

For the record
his agent is one tough SOB and we likely can’t afford him with thanks to the fact Morris will want the farm (and then some) for Brad. We can’t afford high salaries for Stamkos, Lecavalier, St. Louis and others AND brad. If Brad really wants to come back, he’ll have to take a pay cut.
Rangers are in better shape for him, but I don’t know if he wants to be in such a pressured situation as in Manhattan.

We have two things going for us (i believe)
The torts factor: I think his past relationship and history with Torts will be a big plus in our factor
Our talent: We have good, exciting talent that a veteran could find attractive to play with and i think that could also sway his decision

My honest assessment is that we need to win one of the next two games. We’ve gotten into their heads, but if they win two straight and get to 3-2, they have hope again and we’re not in their heads anymore. We need a victory while we still have the advantage.
My selfish assessment is that my sister graduates at noon on Saturday, so I can’t watch a hockey game at that time. Thus, we must ensure that there is no Lightning hockey game on Saturday.

the ugly I fear is the Caps getting ugly
they are such a classless team, if they fall behind by a couple there’s going to be some gooning going on…
I don’t expect anything but a hard fought, close game. But the Caps have been disappointing me with their variable intensity.
Can’t imagine the Lightning not being sharp for this one. I can imagine the Caps mailing it in, but jut as easily I can imagine them putting it together. But all the talk about the “better” team being down 3-0 is garbage. Seems like a lot of Caps fans and players (and their coach) forget that the Bolts got 46 wins and 103 points this season.
Here's the thing with the Caps
The team itself seems to have more respect for the Lightnign than the Pens showed, and other teams have shown in the past. And the respect is mutual, which is why Boucher keeps saying not to underestimate the Caps. of course not, they know full well what that roster is capable of.
People will argue that it’s been just as dirty as the Pens series. Maybe I ma just numb from 9 Caps match-ups this season? Regardless, I see more respect between the clubs.

Pens learned some respect though, right?
I didn’t really develop the visceral hate that I usually get from a playoff series against the Pens…
But the Pens can give the Lightning a very good lesson – winning that 4th game is the hardest part. At least we have Vinny and Marty who know that lesson well.
And Boucher is completely in control of the mental aspect here -and as Yogi Berra said “90% of this is half mental”

I felt “confident”. I was racked as the game came to a close, but I never felt less that “confident”

but also agree with Cassie that we saw flashes during the regular season. most notable in my eyes was the work he did in the offensive zone on the penalty kill. he’d always be able to get a shot or hold the puck for a long time.

For this being such a big crowd with the presumption that they don’t come out all the time, it’s pretty knowledgeable. Loud cheers when we clear the zone and (even better) not many cries of “Shoooooooooooot!” when we’re on the PP.

it's cool. you're not from the South. lol
the basic thing to remember is that grilling meat does not make it barbeque. you have to smoke it at low heat for long periods of time (usually at least 12-18 hours).

Exactly! Grilling is not barbecue, though barbecue can happen in a grill if one doesn’t have a dedicated smoker.
Oh, man, I already wanted some pulled pork. I think the grill is coming out really soon. I even found another place locally to get bone-in pork shoulder.

We have a local place that sells fresh cut pork (they slaughter the pigs themselves… I used to work there as a Meat/Poultry inspector a LONG time ago). That’s the place I go to get my pork for BBQ.

Ohh… Nice. Closest I’ve been able to do to that was a Halal place where we could get fresh lamb when I lived in Syracuse. How fresh? “Come back in an hour. Lamb comes in at 10:30.”
But Muslims don’t eat pork. :(

The penalties killed any momentum they generated but we’re clearly dictating the flow, making steals and getting chances. I have to comment that the d has really stepped up in the post-season, especially Ohlund, Brewer and Hedman but nobody has been brutally awful as Clark and Lundin were early in the Pens series. Blair Jones and Adam Hall plying really well, expect one of these guys to notch a goal tonight. Please stay out of the box Lightning players.

But otherwise a great period for the Bolts. Neuvirth has played really well and been tested often. If we can keep the lead through the 1st five minutes of the third I think we’ll add a couple and close out the series in fine fashion.

That was the year I moved to Florida. I passed up my first two opportunities to see the Flyers in person because they were so bad that year. I waited until the Sabres were in town to go see a Panthers game. Or was it the Bruins? Maple probably remembers better than I.

I don't quite agree with Chief
He said the Erskine goal took the wind out of the Bolts sails…not to my eye. It was a lucky goal, and yes it’s a 1 goal game now. But I felt the Lightning determined the flow in period 2, and Washington looks desperate.
These last 2 games I keep expecting the Caps to really pour it on, but they have never been able to sustain it. A few minutes here and there, but no major pushes…now they are faced with 20 minutes until being swept. They have a few choices:
1) give up – unlikely
2) try to play system and hope for the best – I think that’s their best option, but it hasn’t worked out two well in 3 games and a couple periods
3) start tryin got open it up, but they’ve not been doing that of late, and the Bolts’ have been jumping on chances all series. I think they might try this, but might be tentative doing so. that bodes well for the Lightning
20 minutes folks. It could be rough and tumble. Just hang on as fans. I think the Bolts just keep up the solid work.

certainly worried about that
but only for the health of the players. if it gets to that I’m liking the the Bolts’ chances. The refs have been calling it relatively fair, all in all. Of course we have our gripes – but if gets to gooning I think they will nip that in the bud.
it’s going to be an intense 20 minutes. I think the Lightning have the skill and mental frame of mind to previal. They smell blood. They are going to be smart and aggressive.

Except for HBO. She got that blocked b/c she didn’t want the kids to see some of the shows on it.

Oh. Hrm.
The weird thing here is VS is channel 34, but Comcast Sports Network (which shows the Caps games – even tho’ the cable company here is not Comcast) is channel 35. So there is sometimes hockey on two channels in a row.
On nights like tonight, the VS game is blacked out, so I have to watch on CSN.
Broadcast rules are weird.

I really wish things had gone better for the Capitals. This type of ending was not expected with how these two teams played against each other this season.

Thus far, the Lightning are undefeated during playoff games where I wear my Stamkos jersey. Neurotic superstition ftw. Congrats you guys. Go Lightning!

The Lightning will be wearing the 2007 Logo for the last time through these playoffs, it’s lone appearence in the post season. This logo / uniforms are now 8-3 in the playoffs.

We had one negative incident with Caps fans the entire series. I know this is a bitter pill to swallow, and we’re all shocked it ended this way… But I really do wish you folks nothing but the best.

Closing things out
The Lightning have swept the Washington Capitals and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the second time in team history.
I’m speechless. I’ll save you the pretentious crap and just let you know we’ll have coverage going forward like we have had all season long. As for now, there are three other Conference Semifinal series that need to be concluded before we move forward.
5-3 the final from Times Palace.
