They SAY they’re waiting on Weber. Blech.

Yeah, but that may go all the way to arbitration.. so still plenty of times to get your sheets in on Doughty ;)
NOOOOOOOOO!
No to arbitration! Bad! Bad Agent! No arbitration! ;)

Honestly everyone expects it’ll come in around $7m. We’re just over 7m under the floor right now, we usually spend to the mid-point and mgmt has promised us more spending this year than last. So, could go higher, but…
Oh yeah, and the team can’t walk away since it’s team-elected arbitration. so 7m it is. (I think)
Thank God that's over! Now sign Shea.

They actually agreed to numbers weeks ago

Best we could hope for, I think. And I don’t like long, long contracts; too many ifs down the road.

true, but as young as Stammer is I think it would be worth the risk…
… was kinda wondering if they would sign him to a 1 yr deal and do a long term one after the new CBA is signed..
so. . .
I bought a 12-game ticket plan for the Hurricanes this upcoming season. Pretty excited, having only gone to one NHL game in my life.
With two free game vouchers, I’ll have all three Lightning/Canes games and the Preds/Canes game.

I now have 2 cats. YIKES!
My cousin’s 15 yr old son was given a Belgium Malinois. Beautiful dog. But unfortunately It does not like creatures smaller than he is. It killed one kitty and Laura had to find a home for the other two before they became squeeze toys. So I have them for now, at least. My poor dog is wondering what the hell happened and where those evil creatures came from… LOL

Osgood and HHOF
I honestly don’t care if he ever makes it. There are other qualities that matter and Ozzie has those in spades. Roli wont ever make the HOF either, but he’s still one of my top 5 goalies of all time, and it’s all about character and nothing to do with stats.

1988-89
Sergei Priakhin RW, Flames
First Soviet-trained player permitted to join an NHL club. Played only 46 games scoring 11 points in NHL career that lasted until 1990-91 season.
1989-90
Alexander Mogilny RW, Sabres
Fled to North America immediately after 1989 world championships. Became first Russian to lead the NHL in goals and reach 100 points in 1992-93 and first European to captain an NHL team in 1993-94. One of two Russians with 1,000 career NHL points with 1,032.
I had never heard of Priakhin before. So let me amend that. Mogilny was the first truly successful player from the Soviet Union to defect to play in the NHL. Better? :o)

So what you’re saying is he was a commie. ;) Just teasing.
The HHoF is not rational. It doesn’t make any more sense than the NHL Awards do. I personally wouldn’t vote Osgood in, but I think he fits the mold for the voters. The reasons I respect him have little to do with the things that make him likely to get voted in. I don’t really care if he gets the nod. It’s irrelevant to my judgment of his worth.
Thank God that's over! Now sign Shea.

So this came out while I was camping a couple weeks ago
but I see they released opening odds for the Stanley Cup next season. Bolts are 20/1, which puts them as the 5th shortest odds in the conference, behind the Pens (6/1), Caps (10/1), Flyers (12/1), and Bruins (12/1)

Really?
I wouldn’t touch the Flyers bet with a 50 foot pole. I don’t think they’ll make the playoffs this year, tbh. You don’t lose your top 2 scorers with impunity, and Bryz would have to be a hell of a goalie for them to actually improve.

I wouldn't bet the Flyers either
I actually think the Bolts aren’t a bad play at those odds, and neither are the Habs at 30/1.
The overall favorite is Vancouver (5/1)

Bodog is a much less good 12/1. but at 20/1, that’s a nice play

Thoughts:
Good plays (bottom up):
Florida/Columbus: You never know here. They made big deals in the offseason and who knows, they could both breakout and have a hot spell in the playoffs. I feel it was silly to have them as the two lowest on the list, they’re easily better than about 6-7 of the teams ahead of them.
Toronto: They were close to the playoffs last year and there’s no way their odds should be this low, especially since Dallas is 30/1.
New Jersey: Devils will be much improved this year since they’ll get Parise back and actually have a competent coach for the entire season. Doesn’t hurt that they have a future HOF with SC experience as a netminder. This team could surprise a lot of people.
Bad Plays:
Vancouver: C’mon, I know they were “hockey’s best” last season and a win away from the cup, but are they really the team with the best odds? Most SCF losers take a step back the next season and I can’t see any reason for them to get better. They preyed on a hapless division last year that’s only going to get better.
Philadelphia: To say that they are anywhere near top 4 consideration is laughable.
Dallas: Tell me, who is going to lead this team? They tanked without Richards and he’s now gone, and they have uncertain ownership. I think they’re a longshot to even make the postseason.
Tampa Bay, Detroit, and the Sharks were just right. Pittsburgh, Calgary, Anaheim, and Phoenix’s odds were a bit high IMO. Rangers were abit low.
you're not defending him are you?
are you his mom?

Flashing my Dual Fandonship, DeBoer was not a good coach.. I’m looking for the Devils to be looking at lotto balls…
Eh
I’d have to somewhat disagree. His name was in way too many rumor mills for other coaching jobs after he was fired by FLA for me to believe he’s a bad coach. I at least think he’s better than MacLean, who was a complete joke. Rule teams need to realize: Never promote the assistant to HC when legendary coach retires. It didn’t work for the Wings (if they had had anyone other than Lewis they would have won at least another SC) and it didn’t work for the Devils.

Part Predator, part Lightning.
Funny story about Cam Ward – or it’s funny to me, at least. I was at the ASG, and every time the players were available, Cam Ward camped out in front of me talking to reporters for long stretches. Before the game itself on Sunday, some Toronto media were complaining around me about how they couldn’t get near Cam Ward all weekend – his handlers kept putting them off. So I jokingly told them to stick with me because I always seemed to end up near people he’d talk to. And even after the game, as I was walking into the Carolina locker room, he walked out past me – so I had one more chance, even then.
Just my luck, right? I had zero reason to ask the guy anything. Not that I could’ve since my digital recorder was messed up. But still.
