I keep looking for some place that never gets about 85, never gets below 30, and is still in the South. The Smokies are close, but I hate heights.

Johnson City isn't quite the Smokies
it’s only about 1800 feet, and you don’t feel like you’re high up at all. you can see the mountains rising in the East, but you can’t really see anything dropping off in the West. now drive another 10 or 15 miles east into Carter county, and that all changes. But in Johnson City, you’re just fine

The Northwest is usually about 80º in the summer – when it gets there – and usually no colder than about 38º in the winter. But you have to be able to deal with weeks of rain an little sunshine. The summers more than makeup for it, tho. So does the scenery.

You’re still hot, even if you’re naked. And people here in the South have no concept of swimming to cool off. They go swimming to get wet and have fun. It’s weekend like the last one – during the heat wave – that make a person think jumping in a glacier-fed river is actually a good idea.

My dad, who grew up before sunscreen, is a redhead – er…was before he went white – and so he’s always worn long pants and long sleeves. He had knee surgery, and I saw him for the first time ever in shorts like 15 years ago. So, knowing that his legs had barely ever seen the light of day, I put my leg next to his. And would you believe that he was still darker than I was? He thought that was pretty funny.

So…yeah. I almost always win the “who’s the palest” contests. Except against people who happen to be albino or have albino splotches of skin. And that’s only because they have a transparent quality to their skin that I lack. I am literally so pale that I can compete for the palest skin with someone who’s afflicted with albinism.

So what's the
book on Malone? My Canucks seem to want a winger to play with Kesler, and I’ve always liked the way he plays.
I'll do it tomorrow, that seems like a pretty good idea to me

I’m not quite so sure about this whole “we need to free up plenty of cap space for Hedman” thing. Can’t we just give Hedman some of the money we’re currently giving Kubina, kick Kubina to the curb, and say no more about it?

I think its a combination of both, and to a certain extent i think sabremetrcis can show players who have ‘heart’. (example, stephen weiss of the Panthers who sabremetrics has him amoung the best ‘tough minutes’ guys in the league, which he does very VERY quietly)
Yeah, but out of what you just said, I got "stephen weiss…tough minutes …very quietly). So I might as well just watch.
I’ve had to face the fact that I will never be a numbers gal. It goes in one ear and out the other. I can balance my checkbook and make change but I’d rather use my brain space for other sorts of trivial knowledge than stats.

I was going to compare players on the roster statistically by position. Like how the centers lined up, and recommend who should be on what line based on their stats. Interested in something like that? You could go position by position. Or, forwards, defense, then goalies. Whatever makes sense to you.

Oh, you have no idea. People may crap on the Canucks, but at least they pay attention to the details of the team. I came across a report in a prominent Canadian paper one time saying that a player for the Lightning who had knee surgery would be out for the rest of the season, and at that exact same time the Lightning – on their official website’s front page – had a story about how this guy was coming back in a week or two. And that was in December of that season.

Oh, having Winnipeg in the SE Division this season is going to be a real treat for someone, let me tell you.
Tampa is a real hockey city. As is Raleigh. It’s just that the Ontario hockey news crowd has better things to do – like fret over the Leafs – than do any actual research on teams they and their fans couldn’t care less about.
So imagine being crapped on like the Canucks are, only people hate you because of where the team is located and nothing else. Then, to add insult to injury, everyone constantly gets the fact all wrong about your team. That’s what it’s like to be a Lightning fan.

What’s gotten me is the fact that the past 3 off-seasons have been big turnovers for Tampa Bay, lots of stuff going on with the roster and behind the scenes. This season? It’s quiet. It all happened real fast and now we have seven weeks where there’s not much more than rumors and speculation from idle fans.

Yes. And he know swhat he is doing and he is surrounded by those who know what they are doing. And the Franchise (non hockey operations) is staffed by people who know what they are doing.
The Lightning have transformed. The previous 2 years (before Yzerman, before owner Jeff Vinik) was seat-of-their-pants stuff, with really clueless, classless, and ridiculous moves both on and off ice. Morale for the franchise in general fell.
But it gave you something to talk about.

lol… well depending on the league settings depends on how it works… rotisserie you have a team and its ranked in each stat you get ranked for each stat and earn points on that rank and who has the most points wins
if you do head to head, each week your players acquire points for their stats, the ‘winner’ of the matchup is who has more points than the player they are playing against that week…
it can be super fun to play among friends and makes more sense as youre playing it :)

You can’t break up rivalries or put all the big drawing teams in the East. Nashville, Columbus, and St Louis only survive because they host the Red Wings three times a year. Well, not “only” but its really important financially.

Sort of. It depends on the map projection you’re looking at. Cleveland is 81º37’W and Detroit is 83º03’W. The bigger the positive number (east of 0º longitude, it’s negative numbers), the farther west you are.
Win or lose, I'm proud of these guys.

I'll do it tomorrow, that seems like a pretty good idea to me
What's wrong with tomorrow, I'm watching him but who's watching me?
I suddenly am reminded of Jorden von Strangle
and wish there were an online video somewhere of his “disco? with myself? outrageous!” line
