The only draw back I have seen in the NHL purge forward in professional sports and national media attention has been a recent lack of NHL caliber qualified officials calling the games. On any given night, in the 10-11 season I have witnessed some of the worst officiating the league has ever seen on a repetitive basis. Hopefully the league this year will place the on ice officials in a watch category, to determine the consistency bad calls non-calls and address the repeat offending official when it becomes apparent he is not living up to the duties the NHL demands to promote the professional Hockey product. At any level, mistakes will be made there is no doubt, but addressing the issue can only produce a better outcome for the league. The players are held to a high performance standard, this too, should be the way for the on ice officials.
