John left me in charge of this today, so I'm going to do it a bit differently. Because, you know me, I've just got to be different. Don't worry. He'll be back with your regularly scheduled programming next Tuesday night.
So instead of links, I'm going to go with a single link. That's right - just one. This is your assignment: read what Mr. James Mirtle has to say, and then either contribute your own suggestion, or promote one of the ones listed.
What rules will the NHL test at its R&D camp?
Led by Brendan Shanahan, the NHL's senior vice president of player safety and hockey operations, the league will be holding its second annual research and development camp next week in Toronto to test out a few tweaks on the game.
There's a great big long list of what they'll be looking at, but below I've listed a few of the more interesting items with thoughts on what these changes may mean.

and the least awesomest (at least of his main eight)
is taking the offside back to your own zone. I can understand making offside half as bad as icing (with the sub thing), but it shouldn’t be all the way as bad. no way.

We now have one of the top shootout goalies in the league on board. Shootouts will be our friend this year (except when they don’t count in the standings, which is the dumbest thing I ever heard—why do it if it you’re just gonna ignore it at the end of the season?)

Basically MacLame screwed up by pandering to Langenbrunner to avoid losing the locker room. MacLame didn’t lose the locker room, but MacLame was basically just reduced to Langenbrunner’s [female dog]

This was going to be my homework. Lot’s of goalie folks want this one done away with, since it does absolutely nothing to change anyone’s behavior. Doesn’t actually hurt puck-handlers or help non-puckhandlers, so just forget about it. I personally want to get rid of it because Pekka Rinne is the only goalie in the history of the darn thing to get two of these penalties in one game. To which I said, “Dammit, Pekka!” (twice) :)

Can’t remember against whom, but Roli tried to play a puck, it went out of his playable area, and he was out of position and they scored on a bad goal.
It’s just a stupid rule IMO and doesn’t fix anything. That it got past development is bad, but maybe they’ll fix it now.

I’m not really sure exactly what they thought it was gonna fix anyway, since there are so few really dangerous puck-handling goalies around. Just let Brodeur have his fun.What difference does it really make for the rest of the league?

It gets quiet during the offseason. People are distracting themselves with whatever’s handy – alcohol, family, baseball, soccer, etc. – until the season starts. So it’s sort of hit and miss as to who shows and who doesn’t.

not really, up till college I would come down to Tampa 2-3 times a year, I know my way around. The one big goal of the entire trip is going to be to find a way to get Marty St. Louis to sign my jersey, something that I won’t be able to try to put together until then.

don’t know really what caused it. It was a combination of things. It’s a torn labrum, 12-16 week of recovery time.

Players have been skating for a while, on their own, at home. I mean players returning to the city they play in to partake in involuntary workouts.

It was interesting watching professional hockey players close ranks, actually. They really did not get where fans were coming from, tho. As in, they couldn’t see how fans could think that Kovalev was lazy and a floater.
(For the record, I think he totally cruised on his reputation, played when he felt like it, and then sniped around the net to get all the points he did. Didn’t question the talent or the work he put in to making it into the NHL. Just that his style of play during games wasn’t high-energy.)
