Lightning announce first cuts

From a press release issued by the Lightning yesterday:

The Tampa Bay Lightning reduced their training camp roster by two today, assigning defensemen Adam Janosik and Geoffrey Schemitsch to their respective junior teams today, Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced.

Janosik and Schemitsch each played in one scrimmage game during the Lightning’s 2011 training camp.  Janosik returns to Gatineau of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League while Schemitsch goes back to Owen Sound of the Ontario Hockey League.

Not surprised at all, what with their youth and the Lightning’s organizational mandate for players to play instead of sit. They were never going to be on the Lightning roster, and because they’re still under 20 years old, back to major juniors it is.
