Camp roster reduced to 53

PrintGeneral Manager Steve Yzerman said today that Vladislav Namestnikov, first-round draft pick by the Lightning in last summer's NHL Entry Draft, would be returned to the London Knights fo the OHL later today. The move reduces the the active preseason roster to 53 players.
Yzerman has said before he has no intentions on rushing team prospects to the NHL, and Namestnikov is an example of that. While he has shown skill in his time with the Bolts this preseason, he's not at the point where he'd be pressing for a shot on a crowded roster.
Meanwhile, as Clark already pointed out earlier, former first-round draft picks Carter Ashton (2009) and Brett Connolly (2010) will both be playing at the St. Pete Times Forum on Friday night against the Panthers. Both players have an outside shot at the active roster, but are competing in a crowded field that includes Mattias Ritola, Dana Tyrell, Cory Conacher, Tom Pyatt and Michel Oullet.

That seems a bit quick
Expected, but quick. Figured they’d at least give him a chance to play at the Forum. Hard to say if it was due to his play or just logistics, without actually viewing the games. Thought he “sounded” pretty good. I’m sure JM & Co. have their reasons, besides the obvious roster space issues.
Without the majority of us being able to view the games, from what you’re able to tell thus far.. who do you think deserves the last spot(s)??
Thoughts out to the friends and family of those involved with the most tragic off season in hockey history. Including Red Wings.. Rusty, Beast & Stefan Liv. R.I.P.

Is it REALLY quick? Remember, he’s been here not just since camp opened on September 16th, but for a week prior with rookie camp. As has Connolly, Ashton, Conacher, and a few others.
Who do I think deserves the last spot? There’s a whole lot more of preseason to come, it’s hard to say right now. A lot of the talent that is Norfolk bound will be cleared out on Sunday, at which time we’ll be able to really determine.
Typing is an adventure, and reading should be, too!

When does training camp start...
…for the major junior teams? That would seem to be a consideration for our younger players.

Major junior camp started the weekend before Labor Day, I believe.
