Team Canada's comeback falls short during World Juniors thriller
"It was every bit as loud as 2004," was how my friend Keith described the scene at Saddledome last night, as Team Canada was on teh verge of an epic comeback against Team Russia in the Under-20 World Championships.
Down 6-1, with Brett Connolly having notched the sole goal for Canada during the game, Team Canada scored 4 unanswered goals and was on the cusp of tying the game inthe waning seconds of regulation. It all went for naught, though.
Pete over at Bolt Prospects has a write-up on the game, including Lightning prospect reports.

And, oh yeah, the Finns were there too...
I get that with no Finnish prospects, BoltProspects didn’t cover them, but neither is anyone else. And they were AWESOME!
Sami Aittokallio: 55 saves. FIFTY-FIVE! in the game against Sweden. He has a .951 for the tournament right now (2nd) and a 1.92 GAA (1st) http://watch.tsn.ca/featured/clip594921#clip594921
2 of the top 3 skaters, Mikael Granlund (11 pts) and Teemu Pulkkinen (10 pts) and more skaters in the top 15 than any other country (5). Pulkkinen leads the tourney in shots.
And now they have to play Canada for the bronze.
R.I.P. Belak, Rypien, Boogaard, Lokomotiv.

Speaking of Bronze
There is a report, teh BP has repeated on Twitter, that Brett Connolly will not play int he Bronze medal game, and will return to the Tampa Bay Lightning immediately.

If I cared more about my UNC side, I'd call myself "Tar Volon," and that'd be awesome.
Bolts, Canes, Preds (now in different conferences!). Canes mini-STH. Southern hockey solidarity
