But otherwise a solid period for Downie and Purcell. A few days ago I was thinking it might be okay to trade Downie as part of a package for another top 4 defensemen. We still need to trade Clark and/or Kubina ( especially if he won’t be resigned ) and try to bring in another top 4 d-man with mobility and jam.

I remember last year when Downie and Malone were both out. Stammer and Marty were taking a beating. I think it’s important to have a player or 3 that have a screw loose. Keeps the other team somewhat honest.

I think that opinion is all over the spectrum on him. You do have to take into account the penalties, and that his value is pretty high right now. I don’t think he’s untouchable as far as a trade, but I do think that he brings something to the team that few others on the team do. That would have to be addressed if he were traded.

Believe it or not that was the right call. Garon couldn’t get back across, so no goal, but Mikkelson kept pushing him into the goalie so no penalty.

Although, after I posted that, I realized that in home games, the goal horn also means that the home team just scored. It’s just that in a home game I want the home team to score.

Looks like a lottery pick to me
The Bolts are exactly what they appear to be. A talented team playing down 1 top four d-man and 1 top 6 forward. Some teams ( I.E. Pitt ) can overcome that, the Bolts still lack the organizational depth to do that, especially on defense. Next year should be much better.
