Game 60: Tampa Bay Lightning at Winnipeg Jets

The Tampa Bay Lightning lost to the Winnipeg Jets 4-3.

Most people probably went to sleep after the second period when the score was 4-0 Winnipeg. And, really, who could blame them? The Lightning looked tired - and they played tired.

That all changed in the third period, particularly after Steven Stamkos scored a power play goal about halfway through the period. The comeback was on, at that point. Both Teddy Purcell and Martin St. Louis scored with less than a minute left in the game - Stamkos assisted on both goals - but it just wasn't meant to happen.

And, really, this game sort of sums up the Lightning's season. They struggled through the first few months, but have played very well recently, despite additional adversity. But in the end, it looks like it might not be enough to make playoffs.

Mathieu Garon was chased after the fourth goal early in the second period. He allowed four goals on 18 shots. Dwayne Roloson faced 16 shots, but didn't allow any goals.

One other note: New guy Tim Wallace was not with the team, but was expected to join the Lightning in Pittsburgh.

The next game is Saturday, 25 February, at the Pittsburgh Penguins. It's an afternoon game, with a start time of 1 pm Eastern. Please join us here at Raw Charge; the game thread will go live at 12:30 pm.
