I think that, by tomorrow, people are going to hate me because I don’t agree with the speculation about what Yzerman will or won’t do. Oh well. I guess I should be used to that.
Mimosas, anyone?

What are your thoughts on what he will or won’t do?
by dbaldwin1215 on Feb 26, 2012 12:42 PM EST up reply actions
Oh, I think that he’ll probably use most of the draft picks he has, since he wants to build from withing – and that he’ll trade them only to move up or down in the draft to get the player he wants.
Which flies in the face of what everyone else is saying, which is that he’ll use those draft picks to get a #1 goalie this summer. But I also think that, as a former player for Detroit for 22 years, that he’d rather pick up an elite defenseman than a goalie, if he can. Tho, I think he’ll only do that if it’s a really sweet deal.
So, basically, I’m working off of what I know of Yzerman and what he’s said, and that’s not the common consensus.

So the common consensus is that most people are idiots? ;D
by dbaldwin1215 on Feb 26, 2012 12:50 PM EST up reply actions
Just because people don’t agree with me doesn’t make them idiots. I don’t think like most people do. So a lot of people tend to think I’m an idiot because of that – because I don’t agree with the rest of the herd.

@LightningTimes: Yzerman said he spoke to the Blues about G Ben Bishop but wasn’t prepared to give up a second-round pick.

Hey all
I realize I’m a pretty fresh face around here, but thanks for being an active community. It’s much appreciated when I’m probably the only Bolts fan in my state (aside from friends and roommates who politely watch with me from time to time).
Let’s go exorcise some Devils.
Where are you located? I’m in Virginia, Clare’s in Tennessee, Jay’s in North Carolina, Rafael’s in Brazil, and we have a couple of people who are in Europe who visit periodically, and one in New Zealand. Plus others. So, you’re not ‘alone’, necessarily. :o)

I’m in Madison, Wisconsin. Lifetime hockey fan (college mostly), but I went to U. of South Florida for a year and picked up Bolts fandom then. Wisconsinites are a bit caught in the middle for NHL support (mostly Wild, Hawks and Wings fans) but I loved living in Tampa so it’s Lightning for me (despite that year being the pre-Stamkos/Richards trade year.)
Slowly trying to convert those around me, and I’ve gotten to go to a Bolts game in Minnesota since, at least :)
I’ve always wondered why there isn’t an NHL team in Wisconsin. I usually throw that out there when people start bringing up the tired “there shouldn’t be any hockey in warm climates” argument. “If that were true, then why isn’t there a hockey team in Wisconsin?!”

Hard to say.
I’ve never totally understood. Something about Milwaukee already being an overextended sports market, and maybe being too near the Blackhawks. That said, the UW Badgers have the best attendance in college hockey every year, and frequently sell out the 15,000+ arena. A few NHL teams would kill for those kind of gate numbers these days.
It’s probably because there are no major TV markets in the state is why.

By the way, Cassie...
I was SO close to making a Twitter yesterday…
Then I did not. But there seems to be so much more information on there than facebook or any of that.
You don’t have to say anything, you know. You can just use it as a news-gathering source. A few people do that. And most stuff hits Twitter a good hour before it’s on any websites.

There are two ways to go forward with the goaltending around here. One is to get an elite goaltender. Bishop is good, but maybe not elite. The other is to get elite defensemen.
And you need draft picks for either of those..

Shots are 14-12 Devils; St. Louis has three shots. Hits are 18-15 Devils; Wallace has three hits. Faceoffs are 54%-46% Devils; Thompson is 5-3 (63%). Tampa Bay has four turnovers, two steals, and nine blocked shots.

His defensive game leaves a lot to be desired… great transition player and competent on the powerplay but really he isn’t physical enough and isn’t big enough.

Same story when he was a NYR. Every once in a while he’d make a great, great, great play on a rush and you’d be standing up and cheering, “GILLY! YOU BEAUTIFUL SON OF A BITCH!” but a few plays later you’d be groaning for him to be physical and make better defensive plays with his stick. He’s a curious case, despite his age he is still “young” to the game and can improve… just a matter of having the patience to see him through the growing pains.
