Marty St. Louis nominated for the Ted Lindsay Award

USA TODAY Sports

The 37 year old is one of three players recognized by the NHLPA as the most outstanding this season. The ultimate winner of the award will be announced in June.

Tampa Bay Lightning right wing Martin St. Louis' 60 points in 48 games was an accomplishment unto itself this season. It earned him the Art Ross Trophy for his efforts and boosted morale among the fans in an otherwise disappointing Lightning season.

St. Louis' effort didn't go unrecognized by his peers. It was announced on Thursday that Marty had been nominated for the 2013 Ted Lindsay Award (previously known as the Lester B. Pearson Award), which is the NHL Players Association's MVP award (not to be mistaken for the Hart Trophy, which is the official league MVP award). It is presented annually to the "Most Outstanding Player" in the NHL, as voted by fellow members of the NHLPA.

The nomination truly puts him among this season's elite players; the other nominees for the award are Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals and Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

St. Louis has previously won the award, in the 2003-04 season (when he also won the Hart Trophy, Art Ross Trophy, and Stanley Cup).

In a quote provided by the team, St. Louis said "I am extremely honored to be nominated for the Ted Lindsay Award. I would like to thank my fellow players and more importantly my Lightning teammates for making this possible."

The ultimate winner of the award will be announced during the Stanley Cup finals. Until then, behold the glory of Marty's season in this infographic provided by the Lightning.
