Dominik Masin selected by Peterborough

The CHL Import Draft, ongoing today, is where European junior-aged players are drafted into the leagues of the CHL. Each team can have a maximum of two imports.

Dominik Masindrafted 35th overall by the Lightning in this year's draft, was selected with the 25th pick (21st, technically) in the CHL Import Draft by the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League.

Per Al Murray, Masin would like to come to North America this year and play in the CHL to continue his development.

More on Tampa Bay's bid for the #1

Though we don't know for sure what was on the table, we're made aware who Steve Yzerman wasn't willing to give up to move up.

Bolts tried to acquire 1st overall pick

A odd rumor from last night turns out to be factual.

Bolts take DiGiacinto, Darcy in late rounds

In the final two rounds of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, the Tampa Bay Lightning selected winger Cristiano DiGiacinto and moved up one more time to an earlier slot in the 7th round to take forward Cameron Darcy.

Dominik Masin wants to come to North America

One concern whenever NHL teams select European players is the percent chance that player will eventually come to North America.

While the quality of overseas is very high, there are certainly reasons to believe coming to North America sooner is better for a prospects overall development -- the NHL team can oversee things more easily, and adjusting to the rink size and style of play is easier the earlier a player starts.

So there's good news with Tampa Bay Lightning second round pick Dominik Masin:

The CHL Import Draft is scheduled for Wednesday, July 2, at 11 AM Eastern, which is when we will find out with CHL team gets Masin's rights.

Ben Thomas not afraid to throw down

At 6' 2" and nearly 200 pounds, Ben Thomas isn't just a righty-shot for the WHL's Calgary Hitmen, he's a physical presence on the blueline.

Bolts trade up to take Ben Thomas

So, basically the Bolts traded out of the 5th round to select another righty defenseman.  Thomas is another WHL product, playing for the Calgary Hitmen.I may be wrong here but the last Calgary Hitmen defenseman the Bolts took in a draft was Andy Rogers in 2004.

Bolts take Brayden Point in Round 3

The Tampa Bay Lightning moved up a spot in the third round to nab the highest scorer left on the board: center Brayden Point of the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL.

Bolts take D Dominik Masin, Johnathan MacLeod

The Tampa Bay Lightning add two more defenseman to their farm after selecting D Anthony DeAngelo 19th overall on Day 1.

TB's 7 remaining picks in the 2014 draft

After trading the #50 selection and the #28 selection... Tampa Bay continues to hae seven more draft picks in the 2014 NHL draft.

Bolts trade down with second 1st round pick

The Tampa Bay Lightning trade their second 1st round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft (the one acquired from the New York Rangers in the Martin St. Louis trade) for the 35th and 57th overall picks, ending Day 1 for the Bolts.

It's possible the Bolts had their sights set on a forward taken just before the 28th pick -- David Pastrnak or Nikita Scherbak, perhaps -- and felt better trading back for two more top-60 picks instead of taking a forward they liked less.

The Bolts had previously traded their own 2nd round pick (50th overall) in the Jason Garrison deal.

The New York Islanders selected Josh Ho-Sang with the pick obtained from the Lightning.

Spoiler alert! Florida going off the board at #1!

Ekblad? Bennett?  Reinhart? No, no, Dale Tallon isn't going there.  He's not going to trade the 1st overall pick either...  Not according to Elite Hockey Prospects at least.

2014 SB Nation NHL Mock Draft

The complete list of draft choices by SB Nation blogs that represent their respective teams. No trades allowed, just straight selections. Some quirks, but a more informed mock draft in total compared to some wild-guesses by singular experts.

SBN Mock Draft: Bolts Select Jakub Vrana

With a safe pick in our back pocket, we felt it best to swing for the fences with the 28th overall and selected dynamic Czech winger Jakub Vrana.

Lightning opt out of draft party this year

Feel free to make your own plans; the Lightning are not hosting an official watch party for this year's NHL Entry Draft.

But what about the defense?

PSA: The draft is not for immediate returns

A mock draft is a guessing game, and tying a team's immediate situation to the guess is a sign of how wildly a mock draft is guessing.
