2009 draft pick Richard Panik signed by Lightning

Another member of the 2009 Tampa Bay Lightning draft class (Brian Lawton's only draft class) has been signed to an entry level contract. Right wing Richard Panik signed officially this morning to a standard entry level deal. With Panik signed, he joins Victor Hedman, Jaroslav Janus, Carter Ashton and Alex Hutchings as players from the Bolts draft class to be signed by the team. The only two draftees from the draft class not under contract with the franchise are currently Kirill Gotovets and goaltender Michael Zador.

Greg Logan predicts Duchene to Islanders 1st overall

So Greg Logan, who has changed horses several times about the top pick in the draft, is now predicting Matt Duchene as the Islanders #1 pick in Friday's NHL draft. What an unlikely scenario. I wonder what the fallout in the draft would be from that? < end snark >

NHL Mock Draft Database - DC Pro Sports Report

Found this to be a really cool tool that links to mock drafts around the Internet as well as showing the top 5 draft picks on average. I wish they showed more of the on-average seletion for each team, but that would probably prove to be extremely challenging and tedious.

Lightning 2009 NHL Entry Draft Preview | Bolt Prospects

Pete at Bolt Prospects.com does an extensive, in depth preview of the draft for the Lightning, speaking of needs and name dropping several other prospects in the draft beyond the top 3 players in the draft (which are most commonly referred to both on the blogosphere and in the media regarding the draft).

Cycle like the Sedins Interview / 2009 NHL Draft perspective

Just a heads up on an interview that Cycle Like The Sedins did with me regarding the 2009 NHL draft and the Lightning. From discussing draft steals and blunders (both of which fell into Phil Esposito's lap) to discussing Tavares or Hedman, a lot of bases are covered in the post.

The Draft Board: Victor Hedman - Pension Plan Puppets

Chemmy on Pension Plan Puppets has a great review of Victor Hedman in simplicity. Get to know the Lightning's likely #1 draft pick and just what he brings to the table.

Schenn and the Rumors

To bear witness to the quick reports and reactions on rumors from Toronto yesterday, bare witness to the Toronto Sun article showing how Luke Schenn found out about trade rumors: Through pal Steven Stamkos who not only heard about the rumors on the radio, but had his GM (Brian Lawton) call to inquire about Schenn first hand.

Red Line Report drops Tavares to #3 overall?

When multiple polling firms go over a single issue with different groups of people, there tends to be a consensus and consistent margin that the polling subjects fall within. And usually, one poll veers off target wildly. That poll is usually referred to as the outlier, because it falls well outside the margin-of-error of all other polls on the subject. I submit to you the NHL scouting report outlier for the 2009 entry draft. Click the title link to read the story. The scouting firm in question can be found here.
