It was already assumed David Hale would not be back with the Lightning in 2010-11. He is now officially gone, having signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Ottawa Senators. Hale, who was acquired with Todd Fedoruk in the Radim Vrbata trade last summer from the Phoenix Coyotes, found regular playing time with the Lightning after catching the eye of coach Rick Tocchet.
The Bolts have added more forward depth, signing Mike Angelidis to a two-way contract. He had been in teh Carolina Hurricanes organization.
Another minor league defenseman who made a living in the Dallas affiliate last season. Couldn't hurt to have the reserves on hand, but now it looks like there may be some more lateral movement in the Penguins' system.
After around a 3 hour wait, and tons of rumors and speculation, the deal is done. Paul Martin is no longer a New Jersey Devil and has signed with rival Pittsburgh. The Devils will see plenty of him and fans have at least 3 opportunities to express their opinion to him.
From ESPN's Pierre LeBrun: "(The Rangers) have not talked to us. I do not expect them to at this point," said Jokinen's agent, Mark Gandler, to ESPN.com. "I thought he played well in New York. I think he has a lot of value in the league. I think a lot of teams could use him. He has a few good years ahead of him. He's healthy, he's got skill and ability." As for that rumor circulated a while back - which we covered at the time - on Olli potentially heading to the Kontinental League: "He wants to play in the NHL."
Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com is reporting that the Bruins are in the early stages of negotiations with Johnny Boychuk's agent Gerry Johannson. There are some interesting quotes from Johannson in Haggerty's piece. What I read from it is that it seems like the Bruins have thrown a lowball offer out there as a feeler and the Boychuk camp is playing the waiting game until the offer gets bumped up or until they can test the waters on July 1st.
Vesa Toskala will not return to back up Miikka Kiprusoff next season, Darryl Sutter announced in an interview to air on the Fan 960 at 2PM this afternoon: "Vesa made it very clear that he wanted to be a one or 1A in the league. The two toughest positions on the Calgary Flames are to play with Jarome (Iginla) and to back-up Kipper because of the expectations." It's been assumed that Abbotsford 'tender David Shantz is Toskala's heir apparent, but with news that Jose Theodore may not be back with the Caps and a number of other viable NHL back-ups available through free agency, nothing is definite. Sutter also said that he is waiting for medical clearance on Chris Higgins after the foot/ankle injury he suffered towards the end of the Flames' season before the two sides begin discussing a new deal. When asked about Nystrom, he said discussions are ongoing, but "for an offensively challenged team, we are not going to overpay for a 10-goal scorer." As for White, Sutter claims that talks are also ongoing between the two sides, and that both parties would prefer to avoid arbitration, but it is still an option.
If you wanted Dennis Seidenberg as a New Jersey Devil, then I'm sorry to say it's not happening. He signed with Boston and will be a Bruin for a good while longer. The cap hit will be $3.25 million/year; keep that in mind for future defensemen signings.
"We have his [White's] rights for one more year either through arbitration or actual negotiation. That’s something we’ll work on in the next month." "I wanted him [Nystrom] to get back from the world championships, I spoke to him on Thursday. He’s back in the U.S. We have to work at it." "We didn’t make the playoffs, so we’re going to look at different areas where we think we can upgrade or how we can upgrade, whether it’s through the free agent market or our own unrestricted guys."
