Team Canada's comeback falls short during World Juniors thriller


"It was every bit as loud as 2004," was how my friend Keith described the scene at Saddledome last night, as Team Canada was on teh verge of an epic comeback against Team Russia in the Under-20 World Championships. Down 6-1, with Brett Connolly having notched the sole goal for Canada during the game, Team Canada scored 4 unanswered goals and was on the cusp of tying the game inthe waning seconds of regulation. Thursday coast-to-coast: Connolly turns corner, Wedgewood stakes claim


Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brett Connolly scored another goal for Canada against the Czech Republic last night (see the Montreal game preview for the video). Canada beat the Czechs 5-0. The US played last night as well. However, Team USA lost to Finland 4-1. Canada plays Denmark today 8 pm ET, while the US plays the Czech Republic tomorrow at 3:30 pm ET.

U.S. shuts down Denmark


The World Junior Hockey Championships have started in Alberta, and both the US and Canada played yesterday. Canada beat Finland 8-1 in their round robin opener. Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brett Connolly scored a goal against the Finns in the third period of that match. The US also won, beating Denmark 11-3. Charlie Coyle scored a hat trick in Team USA's opener. The next game for Canada and the US are both tomorrow. The US plays Finland at 3:30 pm Eastern while Canada plays the Czech Republic at 8 pm Eastern. All of the US and medal games are being broadcasted on the NHL Network, as well as being streamed on NHL.com .
